Ive just fitted a mra vario screen on the integra, its second hand only used for 100 miles at a bargain price so I bought it. On fitting I was suprised to find its lower than the stock screen, and when fitted a short test ride in rush hour, well I didnt find any real benefit. I know ive got to fiddle with the blade setting to improve wind protection, but high or low doesnt seem to improve things. Ive only heard good things about vario screens so im doing something wrong, ar'nt I??,

I had one on a Versys and it only worked for me in one position, one click from the top,
so try it in every position not just top and bottom.

On the Tmax mk4 , the base screen is exactly the same shape and size as the standard screen. However, the blade does make things somewhat quieter. Altering the angle of the blade does have some effect - though not a huge amount - it principally allows more air through in a lower position, which is probably handy in hotter weather.

Cheers meldrew, after watching videos on youtube, and been on mra's website, aparently the blade in the lowest position gives less turbulence around the head, sounds a bit "arse about face", but im sure they know their stuff, so will do some testing tonight.

I had a Vario screen on a Varadero, I didn't think that it made any difference at all in any position but screens are a very personal choice !

I think it is going to come down to trial and error

Its a fairly small screen and not very close to the rider so you aren't trying to divert all the air over head - you are just trying to get smooth-ish flow where your head is. That is one reason why a lower setting might work better than a higher one.

It is going to be tricky to test because the wind is constantly changing and you can't accurately measure the buffeting.

You could try a tufty test to speed things up. Tape wool to the front and back of both sections of the screen (alternate left/right so that they don't tangle) about 10-12" max. length, taped a couple of inches down from the edge. You can put a 1" one at the edge of your visor/helmet.
Don't fixate on them while you are riding but what happens to them at different position/angles?
Is there a position where they flap about less violently or separate more/less? Does it change where they point?
Try a range of speeds too, 30 50 70 or whatever

Depends on whether you can be arsed/have time.

What works for somebody else might not work for you. Not just because your head might be higher/lower/forward/back but because the airflow reacts to your body size, helmet shape etc.
On top of that, different helmets react differently

You will probably also find that the sweet spot isn't the same for all speeds and you have to pick the one that suits most of your riding or switch for high speed/around town.

Lastly, each model of bike needs a different screen designed for it. Just because a company got fantastic results on one model doesn't mean they can automatically get such good results on another.

I've got one coming from ebay. It's for the Mk2 Versys - but I intend to remove the "spoiler" and fit it to (carefully) "BOD" (the Kawasaki J300).
AS I only paid twenty quid for it (including postage) it'll be worth a go.

i had one on the first R1200GS and it was bliss after the standard screen, as said took a while to get it in the right place.

I've got a Puig multi adjustable spoiler on the Bev. I have two stock fly screens, one cut down by a couple of inches. I've tried all permutations on both and I've now settled on the lowest possible setting on the lower screen. As Bluebottle says, it hasn't deflected the air over the helmet - neither do - but the air hitting me is less severe and quieter. Still can't ride as fast as I'd like with the visor up though. Took several trials to nail it because the air seems to have been very turbulent and changeable recently.
