IMPORTANT recall for C600/650

Post by SkuTorr »

There have been issues with many of the BMW scoots having defective timing chain tensioners. This has unfortunately resulted in some owners losing their entire engines, as the motor is an interference design, and when the tensioner fails it bends valves (which are unavailable) and holes pistons (also unavailable). Oh, and engines aren't available, so BMW has been replacing entire bikes and is now being very pro-active about fixing them (in continental Europe).

Everywhere else? Not so much. Eight months ago a heads-up was posted on the US Forum, with links to the Italian Forum and how BMW was fixing the problem. It allowed one owner to leverage BMW into a new bike, and another into a proactive repair which the dealer initially claimed wasn't needed.

Now recalls have been issued for the defective tensioners in Canada and Germany.

Don't wait for it to break, call your dealer in the UK now...

It isn't just their scooters. I have been foolish enough to own a couple of modern BMW bikes and to say they were problematic would be a bit of an understatement.

Geoff.
