Howdy

Post by Wes »

Hi, Wes here from the Bexleyheath area.

Well, where to begin... I am a complete novice and honestly know nothing about bikes but that being said I have always had a passion for mopeds.
Now I wouldn't call it a midlife crisis as I'm only 33 but I have finally decided to take on a 'Man Project' and build me a moped.
I picked up a Peugeot BB frame and tank (I think late 50's early 60's) on ebay with the plan of rebuilding and was hoping that I would be able to get advice and guidance from some of you seasoned professionals.
I'm not looking to restore but rebuild with whatever parts are readily available and look good. Now obviously I do not want to take food away from my kids mouths but I am prepared to spend money on this.

So here is my first question:
Engines - I want to put a 50cc 2 stroke on it. Can anyone suggest an engine that is reliable and parts easy to replace. Knowing that it's going to be near impossible to find one that fits I have no doubt I'll be fabricating mounts.
Also any suggestions on reading material about engines, as the gaping void in my brain about them needs to be filled.

Thanks in advance!

Cheers
Wes

Hello Wes. The East Anglian Cyclemotor Club (EACC) sounds right up your street and it's fairly local too, in a north-of-the-river way! They specialise in ancient mopeds and the like.

There's a magazine rather than a forum for the dedicated obsessional!

My natural exuberance spills out all over the place!

Cheers guys!

Thanks 'Whatsisname' I'll have a look. I'm not necessarily looking for old parts but rather just parts that will work properly and easily available for spares. The hunt can be fun for parts but maybe on my second bike:)
