Hi, I've done 23000 Km (14000 miles) on my 2009 Majesty 400. Some mornings (when the engine/transmission are cold) I seem to get a rough take-off from accelerating from a stop. But later in the day (on my way home from work - when the day is warmer) it doesn't seem to be as rough. And once I've done a few km's of riding, then it all seems pretty much ok from then onwards. Till the next cold morning when it does it all again (runs rough on take-off)
I had a 20000 km service done a few months ago, and got a new belt and new rollers put in the variator. The clutch wasn't too bad back then, so I never mentioned it to the Yamaha technicians.
I'm pretty sure it is just the clutch wearing out ? I'm happy to go for another Yamaha clutch, but is there any advantage to go for a Malossi clutch ? (there is a Malossi one on eBay at the moment- here is Australia) Its called a "Malossi Fly Clutch Maxi" Can I put it straight in without having to change any other stuff in the transmission box ?
thanks
Aaron

I'd check if it just needs cleaning out first.

Hi Aaron, I've got a 2012 Maj with 5500 miles up. It does the same thing, seems worse when its damp. I thought about the clutch but as its only done 5500 miles I figured it probably just needs a good clean out. It's due a service soon so I'll let the techies sort it out as it's still under warranty. Which bit of Oz are you at, I lived there, near Brisbane many moons ago and still have happy memories of the place.

Re: Need new clutch for my 2009 Majesty 400
Hi Smeghead. Im down the bottom of Oz in Torquay, Victoria. Riding home from work tonight it was ok. Its actually only really happens every morning at this particular corner. What happens is, I warm up the scoot, jump on it, ride about 200 meters to an intersection. At this particular intersection I proceed to turn right and ride onto a main road. Its only ever at this corner that the scoot judders in such a way that it makes me wish I had a manual clutch to pull in, to stop the juddering. After that its fine, from then onwards, every time I have to stop on the way to work, it works well with no noticable juddering at all. I have dissasmbled the transmission case of older scooters that I have owned, but I dont want to have to find a special tool to be able to remove the clutch on the Majesty 400. So not sure how to "clean" it without being able to take it apart. I was thinking of getting a Malossi clutch, and then taking off the airbox and side of the transmission case myself, then take it to a mechanic to put the new malossi on, then Ill put the airbox ect back on to save myself a few dollars. Maybe Ill just put up with it for a little while, and if it gets worse, ill get it fixed then.

if you take the side casings of, then liberal spray with clutch and brake cleaner, and then see if its the build up of dust/sand thats causing it, you can buy a can at any auto shop which you can spray on your brake calipers and disks as well, it dries off after displacing the dust... you could also try a 5 second rear brake on and hold at 4000 rpm to deglaze the clutch pads and get rid of dust before you first pull of in the morning and see what happensAaron wrote:Hi Smeghead. ps i would not bother going for the malossi clutch as they will need setting up with springs, if you were going to spend money then get a dr pulley hit clutch far far better quality
I cant seem to remember.. I don't know where I'm going, but I'm on my way.

Hi Aaron, Mike advice seems sound to me. I'd give it a go mate, it can't hurt. As I say mine does this occasionally when it's damp, which is quite a lot in Yorkshire!

Give it more throttle get revs up engine is probably not fully warmed up at that point and clutch grabbing trying to engage.

Re: Need new clutch for my 2009 Majesty 400
It is tricky to give it more throttle at this particular corner in the mornings, as the road is usually wet and slippery at this time of the year. So I tend to take it easy around corners and open it up on the straights.

I seem to recall that my old Aprilia Leonardo (Yamaha 250 engine) had the opposite problem - it was smooth when cold but got juddery when hot! I think it was cured, or at least greatly improved at a routine service, so I very much doubt that there is anything fundamentally wrong with yours.
