whats next ?

Hello people.

Having got my test booked and hoping that 13 years on the road and been all over the place, that will give me the hopes of passing first time!

On that assumption i been looking for my next bike, even tho My £1000 priced X8125 wont sell lol i am still looking.

I am not sure what i want, i need a bike that can get me to far places as i love to do the miles and 1000 of them if i do say so, and it needs to be a bike i can use for getting to and from work, i composed a list of 7x automatics ( i will have a auto licence ) bikes i like:

Yamaha FJR 1300 Auto
Burgman 650
Burgman 400
Honda DN01 auto
Aprilia mana 650 auto
Piaggio X9 250 Evolution
Piaggio X9500 Evolution

Bearing in mind you don't have much dosh to spare I think the FJR would be a bad idea, it will be thirsty on fuel and tyres I think will be pricey. Also the jump in power will be huge and it might be a bit much to handle straight after your test. Not to mentiin the insurance would cost you at least a grand with a new licence.

The 650 Burgman too may be expensive to maintain if you don't diy.
The DN01 is fine if you like that kind of style, it is smaller than it looks though in real life, very low down. And bugger all storage.
The Mana is an 850 and again if you have a limited income I would avoid.
The X9 is getting a little long in the tooth now so I'd avoid them too.

So that leaves the Burgman 400. Plenty of extra power coming from a 125 easily enough for motorways two up. Tons of storage and quite good fuel economy so should be cheap to run. Loads and loads of spares around if you buy an old one that needs a bit of fixing up and huge amounts of storage.

Agreed, if you want a bike as opposed to scoot they would be a very good choice. Reliable, long service intervals decent power some storage, abs and quite a few for sale.

Yes, good luck Solo with your test. I'm biased towards the Burgman 400 because it's a fantastic bike but worry about what bike to get once you've passed. Exciting times eh!

I'm going to advise contrary to others, the bike you know in intimate detail is the X9 and given you're likely limited funds then there'd be nothing better than an X9 500. You always know that with Dave Milnes's assistance anything can be rectified. There are many users achieving high mileage, they're cheap to run and maintain (DIY) and mpg is also good.

Good luck with your test Mr Solo. Why not just stick to a machine in the 250-400 for starters. I've seen a Hyosung MS3 250 with 4-5000 miles on the clock for under £900. Although they don't have an UK importer at the moment the MS3 250 is still in production and spares are readily available (though you have to order on line).
