Afternoon,

I have decided that I need a scooter for commuting to work. I am sick of sitting in traffic for an hour on the way to work and nearly two hours on the way home whilst watching scooters and motorbikes whizz past me! I have a CBR600 which I could use to commute but unfortunately my clutch hand isn't great and in traffic my hand starts to cramp up quite quickly so its no good

Originally I was looking at small scooters but after thinking about it I decided that maybe a Maxi scooter would be a better idea as I can use it for more than just commuting! I have eyed up a few including an early 90's Honda Helix 250 but due to lack of spares I have decided maybe that one won't be the best idea. So my focus has now moved onto the Yamaha T Max 500. I can pick up a half decent second hand one for around 2k and it should be just the job for the daily commute among other duties. Most of the early ones seem to be yellow for some reason but luckily I like yellow so its all good!

I'm sure I will be on here plenty asking daft questions!

No one's going to disagree with a TMax, except 2k won't buy relatively newer one.

Lots of 250-400cc maxis would do the job well too, Sym & Kymco offer good options and better value than many. Do you have any thought to ride 2-up on the scoot at all?

Not too fussed about it being all that new. I have just arranged to go and look at a 2003 Tmax tomorrow which will suit me down to the ground

The idea is for Mrs Sammo to come out on the back occasionally so something with a bit of oomph wouldn't go amiss!

if i have remembered correct, the mk1 has carbs and single disk at front, then mk2 onwards fuel injected and twin front disks.... top box i think is always a need for passenger carrying, better for the missus

The one I am looking at tomorrow has a top box fitted so she won't fall off the back!
