Burgman 400

Post by susan »

Hi I am new to this but would like some info if possible from fellow Burgman 400 riders. I have been riding my 400 for 5yrs now with out any problems until recently, I keep loosing power when reaching 60mph ( not always ) can usually get up to 90mph no problem then all of a sudden starts to pull back and then won't go over 60mph as usual it happens when wanting to overtake a vehicle, can be embarrassing to say the least. Travelled a 100mls yesterday before trying to overtake at speed and just as I thought this is great, full throttle and nothing had to pull back in. In the Suzuki work shop now with the mechanic scratching his head. Want my bike back and working.

Regards Susan

out of curiosity, and to get more info, what happens at that speed (55ish) when you want more , seemingly you mention you have more throttle to open :?: yet the motor wont give any more :?: what are the revs saying at said speed when you want more :?: when did this start happening :?: as i think your scoot is the earlier burg from your avatar you put 400Y so if it is its the carb model 2000 to 2004 ish :?:
the more info the better for diagnosis :D

being a carb model then it could be there is air leak to the carb from the air filter, which at higher fuel mix/revs its sucking in too much air, just a thought but a good place to start :D
I cant seem to remember.. I don't know where I'm going, but I'm on my way.

Sorry bike is a 400k, 2008, 22,600mls. Started going wrong 3mths ago only use it for long journeys and was returning to Scotland from yorks, all ok on A66 hit M6 doing steady 70 went to over take and couldn't do it. Speed went down to 45 and wouldn't go higher. Pulled into a garage fuelled up decided to set off again and all was great for next 15mls, 60mph went to over take wouldn't do it. Still had 120mls to do and it played up all the way home. Haven't looked at the revs so can't tell you what they were. Ringing tomorrow for up date but will discreetly mention what you have said. Might not be pleased at a woman speaking up.

susan, the year of your burgman i think is fuel injected, and NOT a carb version, yet the air sucking in could be an issue, or if not serviced for a while, could be in need of a new air filter, or the spark plug is breaking down when hot... anyways when you ring , see what they say first. they should be methodical and check the fuel/air/spark .. could be a sensor on the throttle body (throttle body is where the air/fuel injector is and has sensors on it) :D
I cant seem to remember.. I don't know where I'm going, but I'm on my way.

Thanks very much for that, mechanic out when I rang ( convenient ) but will keep at them. None of what you said was mentioned to me so will put it to them. Many thanks. :D

Welcome Susan

Could be a lot of things as mentioned (worn belt, sensors, leaks ) but have them look at the spark plug to see if it is overheating

The standard plug is an NGK CR7E but for continuous high speed use Suzuki recommend a CR8E ( a cooler plug)
An experienced mechanic will be able to tell if a cooler plug is needed by looking at the old plug

Hi Susan and welcome. Keep us updated, never heard of this particular complaint with a Burger before. Hope it all gets sorted quickly and not too expensive. icon_wink-.gif Wales.gif
