right you wonderful lot , pay attention before I go completely potty!! forgive the tone of my first post but if I had any hair I would be extracting each one...........
bought a 2003 tmax 500 25000miles, march this year, driving it back in a snow storm from the north to the south, got to within 60miles of home, main nut holding the transmission on shaft came off inside the housing and destroyed the internals.......................dealer gave me money back, following week found another one same year and mileage but local south coast dealer, after a week or so battery was draining after a day or two being left to stand,(no immobiliser) dealer took it back and changed the rectifier(righthandside at rear under fairing hanging off the frame), everything was fine for some months, use the bike a few times a week for work 10 mile each way, then it suddenly would act as if battery was flat and not start, jumped it from cars and started first time every time, so dump tested battery and was ok but not that strong and looked old, so fitted new one, all good for a further few months, then last month it refused to start despite jumping, found the starter under tank , removed it, dismantled it to find a brush stuck out from commutator, cleaned it all up inc commutator, had brush on one side springing in and out no probs, all was well for a few weeks, then stopped again, would not start, removed starter again and dismantled to find brush stuck again, ordered new brush back plate yam original, fitted it , fires first time perfectly, used all week and next everyday no problems at all, went to bike sunday night this week, entire bike is dead, nothing at all, even putting jump cables on. removed battery and all good at 12.34v, found starter relay under fairing tucked alongside the battery main fuse gone , got another relay , fuse goes each time I connect battery, ignition off . what the hell could it be now!!!???
I bought the Tmax for reliability, this is a one owner from new , garaged and fully main dealer serviced.......
captain p***ed off

What a sad tale of woe... I'm sure you will get plenty of suggestions from the other members.
You may have to endure the Wrath of the Muppets for not introducing yourself before throwing your problem query into the forum.

However, welcome to the forum... ;¬)

whoa, so many issues from the tmax... A one off lemon is acceptable but two in a row? You must have pissed off a few gods above. I had issues with charging on my 2001 tmax before i got rid of it too, so maybe the charging/starting up issues are not that random.

The good thing is you seem to know your way around the engine/electrics, so at least you are not enduring the wrath of dealers too.

oh and welcome

welcome lad, more than a bit of bad luck, id check all electrical connections and trace the harness for a break which would cause the fuse to blow immediately after providing current.. also generally its the last thing you changed that is usually the issue as we tend to bypass this in our diagnosis of issues, and is a good place to start as it will normally be the cause and needs changing with another to see if its faulty :D

you boys are priceless!
apologies for not introducing myself first, always good to abide by the rules...................

I will strip back this tmax to find the starter and see what I may have done..............
Michael.....I tend to agree with you, in my years of fiddling 9 times out of ten it is something that has been fiddled before...
the fact that the main fuse blows , when the ignition is off suggest something is going to earth on the frame.
we bypassed the relay side of the black box and the starter starts the engine , so something maybe on the way to the ignition.........
funny one of your boys refers to me being unlucky to buy two lemons..............both from main yam dealers and ..........wait for it............they are both yellow!!

when I have sorted this machine it is likely I will sell as lost confidence, what is the general feeling of a maxiscoot reliability/speed/cost equasion??? few of you guys are flying the burghman 400 or 650? what about the Peugeots?? silverwing just looks ghastly?? gilera 800 is awesome but makes me drive like I am 19 again, not sure on reliability...... I have had 3 x 300 vespas before this, all perfect except the paint, never failed, before that Harley iron 883, before that Honda blackbird , before that 3 goldwings, before that Yamaha dt50............

anyone thinks of anything, I will be forever in your debt..........

Hi Shottsy,, welcome.
Not a great advert for Yamaha. It's good that you can do stuff.
I can only do the oil and filters so I'd have just kept going back to the dealer and moaned continuously until I got some sort of recompense.
