Has any body experienced really early belt wear and failure on a Burgman 400?

I had a genuine Suzuki belt fitted to the Sons 400 AN less than 2,000 miles ago after a failure and the same thing happened again when we were in Germany earlier this week.

The mechanic who installed the replacement says he could not see any thing obvious that would cause the problem putting it down to just a fluke.

Thoughts please Gentlemen.

you could check the variator face plates for grooves and the clutch pulley inner face plates, the contra spring also as it might have a bit broken off it at the base of the spring, too much tension/wrong alignment in the spring will make the clutch pulley not expand enough for the belt to creep into it, causing heat and fractures to the belt, also check for rubbing on the casing, were the belt meets the rear clutch pulley bottom of the casing, when the belt is at rest there aint much room there, if rubbing then the pulley is not relaxed enough for the belt to sit in, just thoughts as thats were i would be looking

It would have been revving it's nuts off if rear pulley not opening up properly can happen tho its like pegs slide in a spiral groove .It's a bit hard to check on bigger cc's scoots as spring very strong to push against to try by hand .

true lad, more concern that at tick over the belt when at the rear top has a cover casing near it, would check anyways

Nothing is just down to a 'fluke', something is causing your 'genuine' belts to break prematurely. Out of interest how much did you pay for the Suzuki Genuine belt?

I've got to say I don't like or accept the too easily the idea of a fluke without eliminating other possible factors.

I can't remember exactly but it was over £100 by a good margin. I will get those ideas checked out.

Really grateful for all help. The cost is one thing but its the lack of confidence in the bike these things cause that concerns me most.

Just a bit more info - the bike wasn't over revving before the break. No sign of anything wrong just lost speed and then the revs went up.

Rich if your reading this - is that accurate as to what happened?

The bike lurched/jumped at around 60mph, about 10 seconds later the revs went up and power was lost. Exactly the same as in Blackpool, the new belt put on by the Germans seems to run a little different but its hard to explain...different engine noise, runs slightly slower revs, and also feels like it pulls better away from the line.
Like G said it dents your confidence in the bike, but I would rather find an underlying issue for the snapping rather then sell on the bike as its a beaut!
