Hi guy's, just got myself a 1999 suzuki burgman an400. in ok shape. and im loving the burgman but the previous owner fitted a aftermarket exhaust and when slowing down from high speeds it backfires/ pops all the time. i have clean the carb but still does it. would be great to get some ideas on what to check. also was wondering if the carb has an air fuel mixture screw on this model as i think it may be running a bit rich. many thanks

Hi there, I had a 2000 burgman 400 a while ago. Had similar problems as yours, then it got worse and engine started to cut out when revs dropped. Turned out to be the small rubber mount between the carb and airbox - had a crack in it. Replaced it and all was ok again.

Aftermarket exhaust usually pop as not same back pressure as standard but as said check rubber inlet manifold

welcome. Most aftermarket exhausts do pop and bang when slowing down from high revs like others have said but if its cutting out that isnt normal and would look into the carb area for leaks .
