Starter motor for 400
Looks like the starter motor has gone on my 2012 Burgman. Unless it can be repaired. The thing is my dealer says a new one is around £500. I know Japanese parts are expensive but this is horrendous. Anyone got an opinion or better still anyone had to have a new starter motor? If so how much was it?

I have taken 3 of these to a local electrical engineer for a dealer friend of mine, a know week spot. They charge us £30 to repair.

The brushes go on them, check out WEMOTO for a brush plate and new brush set..but rip it apart first before you spend any money..

Re: Starter motor for 400
Tried going down the repair route but to no avail. It has seized. Also tried eBay but they are either for the pre 2010 model (it changed to a completely different motor after this) or are unclear which year they are for. Most of them are rather too cheap for my liking as well, and could well be inferior copies which will fail rapidly. Also tried used, but it seems there are not many about and I have no way of knowing how long it will last. I emailed a couple of places I found through Google, resulting in one in Redcar for £250. This is more like it. And they say it is OEM. That will do me. Half the price.

Re: Starter motor for 400
you may still get one new at a good price, try finding the part number from here http://www.bike-parts-suz.com/index.php you need to input you vin number etc and then you find the correct part number for the starter, then you can search elsewhere for your part , just a thought
as far as i could tell the part number ( without putting the vin in ) is 31100-06H01
This Suzuki 31100-06H01 MOTOR ASSY,STAR is used on these models and components:
2012 AN400ZAL2 STARTING MOTOR
2012 ANA400AL2 STARTING MOTOR
2013 AN400AL3 STARTING MOTOR
2013 AN400ZAL3 STARTING MOTOR
2014 AN400AL4 STARTING MOTOR
2014 AN400ZAL4 STARTING MOTOR
it seems 31100-06H00 had stopped being made for whatever reason by suzuki and the 2009-2011 models use 31100-06H01 now... could there be a recall for yours if it was fitted with 31100-06H00 it will state the number on the starter casing

I cant seem to remember.. I don't know where I'm going, but I'm on my way.

Re: Starter motor for 400
All done. Got it back last Friday. Could have got it cheaper but at least I am back on the road after a week. No more bussing it to work!
Found out one thing though. The starter motor, at least on the post 2010 ones, is in an almost perfect place to get sprayed with water from the road. In fact it was corrosion that caused it to go. A bit of bad design there.
Kayz1 - no go as regards fixing it i'm afraid. I saw the old one and it's totally buggered.
