hi all ive recently left geared bikes due to knee problems and decided i wanted a burgman 400 erm i am a rat bike rider so my burgman has started the life of rat..... i have never had one before or even rode one .i love the bike its a dream to ride with my health probs but i have a few niggles i hope you can guide me to solutions....i am getting very poor fuel economy as in 70 miles to half a tank and ive noticed it gets hot ive checked fluids and oil and all seem ok ..i hope i havnt bought a dud as i will be using it almost daily..any help much appreciated

Be better if you worked out actual fuel in litres to top back up rather than half a tank as fuel gauges not that accurate.

If its an old 400 60 mpg is about the norm depending on how you ride it .

Fuel gauges are mostly just decorative foibles.
Brim tank, note mileage or zero trip, ride, brim tank again, calculate consumption from distance travelled and fuel added.

On the J300 the normal range is about 175 miles when the last segment is flashing at me and I think I get somewhere around 75mpg. With the gauge split into 5 sections you would guess that each would go at 35 miles. No, way out: the first disappears at 80 miles. Go figure.

So on my experience it looks as though yours is possibly the other way around in that your first segments disappear pretty fast and then maybe the last ones hang on for a good while. Dunno, but I thought I would offer this as a possible answer.

Agreed - my Silverwing takes half a tankful to move down one block on the fuel gauge and the second half to do the other five.
Unnerving at first but I'm used to it now.

Welcome. If it helps, I get 52 mpg on my 15 burg 650, roughly 160 miles per tank
