Hi all,

My name is Phil, I have just ordered a Yamaha XMAX 125. After umming and ahhing about some sort of motorbike for about 20 years, this year when I turned forty, I thought "Sod it, I am gonna do a CBT"....... So that's what I did.
I have no idea where this journey is going to take me, whether I will enjoy it or whether I have bought the right bike. I was condsidering a geared bike but after sitting on loads of bikes, I found the XMAX was the most comfortable for me, so the journey begins.
My new bike is being delivered on Wednesday, so I look forward to updating you with my progress.
Any hints, tips or advice would be great fully received.

UPDATE: I have just come back from my first outing in the XMAX, I am bloody freezing! Probably wasn't the best time to go out as it was frosty outside, but there was no wind, the sun was shining and it was early enough that there was hardly anyone one the road.
Just went about 10 miles to a couple of villages and back to get the feel of things. Everything went smoothly and without incident, the only slight annoyance I found (and bear in mind, I am the fussiest person on the planet -I once sold a brand new car I had just spent £25k on because I didn't like the wind noise!) was that there is a little 'play' in the throttle- latteral movement and up & down (not in the twist of the throttle) It is something that I am sure 90% of people wouldn't notice, my girlfriend looked at me as if I were mad when I showed her! I looked it up online and it seems fairly common, one explanation was simply that due to temperature variation and the expansion of materials a certain amount of play has to be there as otherwise on a hot day or if the bike was left in the sun, some parts will expand to the point that the throttle would not open and close properly, which makes complete sense, I however found it a little annoying!! Anyone else found this?

Yes can confirm you are mad. But we'll done for going out on it

Its a platic tube over a metal bar... and yep have always felt the same, a luverly turned metal tube running on fine needle rollers at both ends, like a precission swiss lemo electrical connector... thats what is needed of perhaps a number of sprung tangs at each end to compensate for temperature expansion, and use a lightdamping fluid, bit like throttle meets high end hifi turntable...

Went out on the 400 this morning, and again on the new SH tiddler to do the same 'loop'
Tiddler is surprisingly sprightly until the hills (now done 200miles) Xmax suspension is a bit plusher...
Bit nippy though at 1 or 2 degs...

You are right, after just doing those few miles, I have just ordered some thicker 'winter' gloves. Would have liked another run out today as the weather has been so good, but have had to come to the in laws for the day
