its a long time ago  i used to ride speedway bikes in my teens in the mid 70`s i owned a peter collins jawa 500... i used to ride in the mid week practice sessions at odsal and The Shay where we got advice from the pro`s, never made it too far but it was a lot of fun smelling the methanol in the back of the van  i can remember clearly the beginning of my affair with the jawa on my first few ventures on track, its an experience trying to master and overcome your instincts to learn the art of getting the bike to start its slide, i remember my first time once learnt that your concentration level to continue to do certain things for 4 laps, and me dicing with another rider for first position was out of this world.. i kept going for another half lap before i saw the guys frantically waving their flags i was so fixated. i forget a lot of things, easily... but the memories i have of my youth on different machinery have always stayed in my head. love anything going sideways, yet when you are a spectator it does not look so involved... but im smiling now as memories flood back :D

Had a CCM R30, Ktm 950sm, Husqvarna Nuda 900 and a road legal pitbike motard, always too scared to try any of those shenanigans, was going to pay to do a supermoto school but lost me job and flogged my big bikes so went to shit, one of my biggest regrets as i love motards.

It is amazing to see the skills these guys display.

Doug Wyer was a hero when I was a kid - MichaelPhilips will remember him

My first job that wasn't a paper round was at Owlerton Speedway, Sheffield

yes i remember those times, he had some battles with ivan and peter, my hero as i was the same age was kenny carter, he was young and a nutter when he came to the shay, dont know how he defied injury, i loved going over the tops to halifax from huddersfield, had a yamaha dt175 then, sadly he met his own devise....

there`s a good biography called Tragedy - Kenny Carter By Tony McDonald that i have been meaning to get, but keep forgetting about it... thanks for putting this back on top of my list :)
