Its a 2009 model with 9000 miles for £3500. The scoot is in generally good nick with the usual marks that accrue over 9000 miles of use. I noticed that the wheels are quite corroded and the dealer said he would have these blasted and powder coated before sale. Is this a common feature or does it indicate possible corrosion issues elsewhere? Is the frame vulnerable, for example?
At 9000 miles are there any other service or maintenance items that I should be aware of before committing? I am looking for something that might be good for at least a couple of European trips, possibly 2 up if I can persuade my wife and the 650 Burgman looks like a potential tool for the job. I could buy a later model and spend more money but not sure if this is necessary.
Thanks, I appreciate any help that owners can give me.

Price is current market for year/age
Unfortunately the wheels do corrode and my mates 2010 has had the wheels powder coated and he pampers his ride.
As for hidden nasties under the tupperware sadly there can be ask the dealer to remove the plastic and show you the frame (he will want a sale believe me maxi scooter buyers aren't falling through the door) but as I recall most crud catches around the centre stand and inside face of exhaust .
Check the service book for date stamps if winter month services ridden all year round (but not gospel)
The next expensive service is the 15 thou' for valve clearances (I think) which can be steep but again see if the dealer will throw that into purchase price

The Burgman USA site and Le Dudes video's explain most items, but they are very reliable. There are no replaceable service belts, so that's good new's, and the clutch is standard wet motorcycle type. I had a 2009 model and was faultless. The stopper bolt (clutch drum retainer) can be inspected for chips and replaced with a newer improved bolt. Very simple to do, just unscrews from underneath. I got paranoid about this which in hindsight spoilt my enjoyment of the scooter. From 2013 the upgrade improved fuel by 15%, could be handly as tank range is improved, my couple of friends like the new models over their original ones so gilded by that, they must be good. Evolution Motorcycles in Maidstone has a good one at the moment, but it's in Matt Grey, just not my colour.

I had no trouble with mine but the wheels did tend to corrode. I saw no sign of any other problem areas. I find htrem great bikes and in some ways prefer the "grunt" on the old model. MPG has never been an issue and on long runs alongside a 03 non exec model I don't get any noticeable difference in economy anyway.
Its true that service is pricey unless you have a good local mechanic who's reasonable - I do.

Great bikes my old one was faster... My 2005 won't do ton boo hoo, normally get 120 miles to a tank no matter how it's ridden underwear storage is VAST my clutch was fucked at 27k one owner bike from central London so I suppose it was on and off the throttle a lot.. I bought a givi screen and cut it down, brilliant mod. Eats miles happy at 80 all day long, I do engine oil gear oil final drive oil myself never don't valves probably never will but done the clutch this was ok, once you get used to how the Tupperware comes off , no problem the radiators get shitted up so get a fender extender as previous post check le dude out I have emailed him a few times he's really helpful, also the seat release cables are prone to breaking you can attach a cheeky cable tie to the mechanism and tuck it u see the side of the seat incase this happens hook it out with your finger and pull! Also handy if you lock you keys under the seat!! Go for it man enjoy it .. Oh yeah power screen very handy mine is 05 pre power screen but my dads is a power screen and it's brilliant

Eww I was out with my dad at a show and he got in a flap and slammed his seat down then realised he had done the same... Let's say mum wasn't impressedMeldrew wrote:I wish I'd known about this seat unlocking dodge before I accidentally locked the keys under the seat of my 650 Burgman one evening in Keswick. I phoned Mrs M who drove over from York to Keswick, picked up my spare keys from my home in West Cumbria, then drove back again to Keswick with them so I could eventually ride home.

I've got a newish one 2014, in fact this is my 5th 650 burger, the pre 2013 models could be a bit thirsty,i do tend to ride hard, was most surprised with the fuel comsumption on the new model,i dont normally tinker, but when the wind blew my old one over i with the help of " le dudes" web sight changed the biggest main panel on my 2011 model,a great web site for anyone with a burger.I had big tourer harleys, the Burger is much more comfortable, great weather protection if your an all weather rider, love the power button, for overtakes and its good for extra engine braking. The one you are on about with 9 k miles is nowt, loads of life left in it yet, serviceing every 4k miles can hurt your pocket unless you do it yourself, had my rear tyre changed at 4k miles when serviced, the front tyre is still going, now up to 9k miles, getting them both changed next week.Despite being a big lump(not me,the burger) filtering is easy, not got a top box on this one,but my old ones had top boxes, still a breeze to filter.
