Hi I am obviously new and am thinking of getting a scoot again. My first and previous model was a Honda silver wing 125.

It was a bit too big for London traffic but the worse bit was the backache I got after around 20 mins.

I admit my posture is poor. I do get a similar problem with sit up and beg bikes e.g. Fazer 600. In fact the only 2 bikes I have been OK are a bmw800gs and a Harley 883.

For reference I am around 6ft and would dearly love some advice about what is likely to be comfortable.

I think my choices are a sh300/ xmax250/ tricity 125. I also need to find some dealers to do some test rides.

Also in terms of doing a 34rt commute (mostly filtering) what else should I consider?

For my pennies worth I'm afraid if you found the Silver wing bulky for London then my suggestions will be even bigger but help your back.
Burgman 400 or Forza 300 both have longer seats and with the burgman you can put your feet forward armchair comfort.
Both mentioned have been around for a while so used examples available to test.
Where in the country are you forum folk can probably point local dealers with used examples you mention.
Have you tried bar risers, I'm not 100% but owners will confirm both forza and pcx have exposed mounts

Thanks. I tried everything on the silverwing, feet forward, back etc and no joy. I am in NW London and will try a few more shops.

Try a 300 gts vespa, sitting bolt upright is better for posture with legs at a better angle than cruiser outstretched style, i have a herniated disk and 30years of back problems and sitting as vertical as possible works for me.

Try Scooterden usually loads of demo bikes and Suzuki & Honda near to each other (make it a day out nip to brick lane bagel shop salted beef and loads a mustard.

Thanks. It's also not too far from work. Looking at the web, something with a bench seat is better for me apparently. Are the Italian bikes that much more tempera tall compared to say a Honda?

i see you from NW London , pop into greater London Motorcycles in edgware who are a piaggio,gilera,suzuki and vespa dealer.

I am 5ft 8inch and i found the piaggio typhoon fairly comfy to ride on and had the piaggio 125 GT for couple of weeks and that was surprisingly very comfy and responsive scooter and would be ideal for commuting .

I agree with biker desire, the GTS is a good ride for taller than the average bear riders, I'm 6'3" and was comfy on my GTS touring. It is also nippy and light enough to be thrown around, as well as being sexy little beast.

Try sitting on a SH125... A revelation in commuting, had on just over 6 months now for central london commuting, xmax 400 getz a run at the weekend...
And a lot more roomier than you think, true sit up and beg, no feet forward, but the flat floor alows for a bit of movement.
Vespa ard also a lot roomier than they apear.

Don't buy a Vespa GTS in London if it is ever going to be parked outside. They are currently a magnet for theft.
