Thinking of Getting the 650

Hi All,

Due to developing Degenerative Disk Disease I find riding quite painful on my current steed, an XT1200Z so I have been looking around for something that is better suited to me and I am now thinking of a 650 Bergman. Ok not just thinking, actively looking and planning on getting one. I like the look of the riding position (reminds me of my old Dragstar) and the lower lumber support looks good, plus a riders backrest is available. Just got to do some serious cleaning of the XT1200, then I can book a test ride with a dealer - I want to trade in the XT1200 so main dealer it is.

I used to think nothing of a 400 mile day and averaged 16,000 miles a year on my bikes (strangely enjoyed the two Iron Butt 1000 miles in 24 hours that I did). Now, even riding a mile hurts so life is sucking a weee bit.

Does anyone here suffer from lower back pain and can tell me if the 650 is comfy for long trips or can give tips on what they did to resolve back pain on the 650?

hi and welcome. Everyone is different, you need to take a burgman for a test ride.

Burgman 650 is heavy beast if have health props now may be better to bite the bullet and go even lighter to a 250 or a 300 .Just my opinion

Hi. I suffer the same as you. I have a 400 and 650 and the 650 is much more comfortable. Heavier than the 400 though

My current bike tops out at 300 kilos all high up so heavy is not an issue!
Just got to work out how to fit my current hard luggage to the 650 (Givi Trekker Outback)

A lot of bikers seem to think the 650 burger is the way to go from a geared bike, there are a few others that would be a perfectly reasonable choice as an alternative. Is there some sort of rule that once you reach a certain lack of fitness you have to ride a burgman?

I think it's the cc's with bikers as well can't see that a smaller cc can do the job .
