Cannot put back Piaggio X10 Seat - after taking apart

Hi there,

I spent almost two days due to weather and the amount of body pannels on the X10 fitting heated grips to my X10.

However, when I try to replace the seat I'm having trouble attaching the swinging arm support.

firstly I have attached the seat back to the bike using the two long bolts, but then for some reason the swinging support arm doesn't push back down to allow the seat to close before I attach it.

Can anyone let me know what i'm doing wrong... i'm at my wits end, I've taken so many bits off bike now, that I'm so close to the end I don't want to have to strip the bike down again to see whats underneat the storage compartment to see why the swinging arm support is not bending down.
