stops when wet

Hi
My 2000 burgman 400 has issues in the rain.. ride for 5 mins and stops wont start.. turns over wont fire..smell the fuel getting in but wont start... in the dry perfect. just changed spark plug and cap...
Any advice apreciated

has the front mud guard lost its flap, so allowing water to penetrate the electrics

hasnt got a flap... also hasnt got an under tray.. i wouldnt of thought that water would corse a problem, I mean its bike, they get wet.. my others dont do it.. I was assuming there was water getting to the plug..it has rubber cush at the bottom of plug and at top of cap... thinking out loud here.... cud it be selonoid, possibly rectifyer....
