Hi there.

Having today obtained my UK full motorbike licence, meaning I can now move on from my 115cc machine to something meatier, I have my eyes on joining the maxi scooter crowd. That still seems to draw a few quizzical looks from motorbike boys ("Why wouldn't you want gears?"), and I know maxis are more of an established feature in France, Italy, Spain etc, but I am very keen. Specifically, I have my eyes on the soon-to-be-released Yamaha Tmax DX. I intend asking for maxi users' thoughts on that with a thread to invite views on the DX, but I would of course be delighted to get any advice or suggestions you more experienced maxi users may have. The Maxi Scoot side of things a bit like the bike side of things - rests a little on what you mainly want from it...

But if you want a 'do-most' and 'general-fun' rather than a 'dedicated tourer' or 'inner city commuter' or 'wet weather protection' etc. and have the money... then spoil yourself and T Max away! 'prolly one of the most 'involving' scooters to ride... power / weight / handling in balance...

My own view is "why would you want gears?" Especially if your primary use is commuting, what's the point of all that messing about?

Hi and welcome, don't know about the new Tmax, I had a MK 4 which was brilliant.

I like the 'manual' gear change on the Burg as I can keep the revs higher before changing than the auto which changes gear early, at odd times and loading. Nearly has got me into trouble a few times.
Tend to use manual around town then change over to auto once I hit the motorway as I can still punch the power button for the overtakes
