Well as predicted by others I've decided my little sym hasn't got quite enough speed for my needs, thing is I love the little thing, so what to do?!?!
Today I've ordered a derestricted CDI unit so let's see how that goes, updates will follow

From observation of many riders over many years, to get greater speed you need:
- to lean forward over the screen
- fit a loud exhaust
- apply stickers from racing team sponsors and a racing number too
- remove all unnecessary weight from bike (like chains, padlocks, etc)
- wear a set of tight leathers and an expensive crash helmet (from a manufacturer who says the SHARP tests are rubbish)
or get a bigger bike.

All you need to go faster and get more mpg is a
Maxi Muppet sticker

You may get a bit more speed but at the end of the day you can't beat cubes.

Get a rucksack.
Sportsbike riders always have them, sportbikes are faster than maxi-scooters - rucksack!

This. If you are after proper decent increase in power then a new scoot/bike is what you need.
You're not going to notice that much improvement on your exisitng scoot no matter how many "performance" bits you stick on it.

And a giant go pro on top of your helmet? And one of those tiny illegal number plates.

I understand that the best way to go quicker is to get a bigger bike, I don't get my first years no claims till August so this is my plan for now, things may change later in the year.......

Oh yes!
I find even the little 650 Burg feels a bit slow and lacking umph so how the people on the dinky bikes can handle the lack...
