Zero DSR Electric Motorcycle

Last weekend I had a ride out on my fossil burning 300cc Yamaha Xmax 300 Scooter.
Visited a bike shop that has recently started selling Zero Electric Motorcycles.
When I arrived they had an open day with test rides available and was asked if I wanted to take a Bike out
I explained that I would love one but couldn’t afford one.
“No problem, we’re just trying to get bikers out on them so they can spread the word”
It would have been rude to refuse!
So I ended up on last year’s model, a Zero DSR with 73BHP and 145 nm of torque.
The power is nothing to write home about but the torque is more than any 1000cc Super bike available!
The Bike had a 14.4 Kwh battery fitted and the bike I rode had the optional ‘Charge Tank’ fitted that adds another 3.6Kwh and 6Kwh Charging from a Charging station.
It has a range of 96 miles at a constant 70mph and a range of 131 miles on 50:50 slow fast speeds.
Only got a 5 minute ride but Wow! I want one!
The torque was absolutely amazing.
I am 57 years old and have ridden all kinds of bikes over the years but never one with so much torque from zero mph!
They also had this years new model available which has 110bhp and a whopping 190nm of torque, it also has a rapid charging option available.
But could not get a ride on that one :frowning:
The Bike I rode had 400 miles on the clock and was on sale for £13499
The new model starts at £16499
I can dream…

It’s happening. Electric will be the future.
We can moan about it as much as we want but we won’t stop the leccy revolution.
Once they’ve conquered the range problem (which, after listening to a science programme on the radio recently) won’t be too long in the future then fossil fuels will be dead.
It’s the transition that needs to be handled sensibly by future governments.
Currently the political debate on this is awful.
Too many politicians scared to death of frightening their gas guzzling voters.
There needs to be substantial subsidies to enable people (including business owners) to convert their vehicles and fleets.
I’m sure the future will be good for our children if we all take responsibility now. icon_wink-.gif

You probably rode the same bike that I did on the demo day at OnTheWheel.

I was seriously impressed.

Yes, that's the one that I rode :D
It was at Wheels in Peterborough
I am still kicking myself for not taking the SRF out

Hopefully we will be able to generate enough green electricity to charge up all these forthcoming electric vehicles !

There will be a huge surplus of electricity once we change over to electric and stop using fossil fuels.
Every gallon of petrol/diesel uses approx. 5.5 Kwh of electricity to refine it.
My Electric Renault Twizy will go approx. 40 miles on the electricity that one gallon of petrol would take to refine :)

We are well on the way. The UK are ahead of renewables targets. 8-)
