The Future of Burgmans

Slightly interesting article here about the future of Suzuki scooters. It seems that the Burger 400 will be updated but the rest will be replaced, though I don't suppose that many people on here will be that interested in the demise of the existing 125 & 200 models.

No mention of the 650 - has it already gone altogether, or was that just in the UK? Are they going to do a new more than 400c scoot?

If it ain’t broke don’t fix it mr suzuki......
The 400 is an excellent bike. By all means make it more environmentally friendly with engine upgrades but leave the rest alone, please.

Interesting news Mr G, as an ex K8 400 owner. I was impressed with my K8 other than the shudder from transmission. I'm now considering my retirement-treat bike this year but will not go back to Suzuki with their current poor line-up of scoots. I won't choose the current 400 as it's starting to look dated, I bet the little Address is a fun town scratcher though but I'm after something bigger than my 125.

There isn't much out there that I'm not too enamoured with at the moment - the new Tricity looks interesting - so perhaps Suzuki will revamp their line-up to coincide with my retirement lump sum! :P

Other than the fact that I already own a Burgman UH. 8-)

Interestingly, the 400 has never been the best seller of all the Burgmans. The 125 was always the top selling Burgman, followed by the 650.

I believe that the 650 has been dropped completely, it's simply that existing stock is being sold in non UK markets.

I'd expect more focus on hybrid and electric models than another larger capacity scooter, but I could be wrong.

I suspect that they are more interested in selling a few more scooters in a saturated market.

I also suspect that the 400 loses many potential sales to the 300s in the market.

I have enjoyed owning all my 650 Burgmans and a very nice 2011 400 Burgman as well,i just fancied a change which is why i got the Mk6 Tmax, had i known Suzuki were going to discontinue the 650 i may well of purchased another one instead of Max,ok i know they are a bit of a Lard Arse and the service intervals could do with being upped to every 6k miles, very hard to beat for a tour, loads of space and my Scotland trip a few years ago was a breeze on the Burgman, more comfortable than my HD ultraglide i had,so now we have very few twin maxi scoots to choose, with both the Big Burger and the Silverwing gone, leaves the Tmax, also Kymco’s AK550 IF you can find a dealer local to you,as far as i know there aint one anywhere around Northampton,if you do find a dealer, will they put themselves out to sell you one, because its almost certain not to be something they will have in their lock-up....Kymco’s dealer network or lack of it has been mentioned in various threads on here many times.Honda & Suzuki i guess have no intention of tasking their R&D departments with bringing the big twin maxi scooter back to life.....

Well, you can always pay a fortune for a BMW, or a Honda Integra (or a Sym).... You'd have thought that since Yamaha sell so many Tmaxs that the other Japanese makers would try to get some of that market share, but they've never tried to directly compete with the Tmax, On the other hand, the Taiwanese do the exact opposite!

Yes, the Integra is still available (and even has space for a helmet under the seat these days), as is of course the X-ADV, and we believe the Sym TL500 is coming to the UK, assuming the importers can get their s**** together!

It's when I read stuff like this that I have to surmise that the big manufacturers simply regard riders as cash cows, to be milked at every opportunity. It seems that running something ostensibly as practical as a big scooter is every bit as overpriced as keeping a weekend warrior's sports bike on the road.
