Took a windy ride to the bike show, with the eldest on the back of the NC...
Wetherspoons for breakfast then the Blackwall Tunnel...
Quick mooch about... Not a lot doing...
Sat on the new 2020 SH125... Nice... £3400... and a maybe...
I'll have to see what the current one will get on a PX...
If its £1500ish, and £1800ish to change, it could be a go-er...
I'll need the handguards and screen, like my current SH, that will add another £200...

So... A quick £1 worth of Jet Wash to get the worst off, and off to 21st Moto...
2020 Sh125 with Top Box is £3399, Screen and Handguards add another £200... £3600
My 2015 Sh125 with Top Box, plus Screen and Handguards, and covered 33,000 miles - Home Serviced, Good Nick but Highish Mileage... £1100 offered PX - Bloke recons they would be looking to then sell at £1500...
Making it £2500 to change...
So if this one does 5 years, and is worth a grand at the end... Find another £2500 and star again.
Was similar-ish money and approach going from the Gilly Runner to the XMax250, 250 to 400 etc.
£500 a year / £50ish a month, say £50 month Petrol, another £50 month should also cover Insurance, service items and tyres... A Season Ticket is £2000...
So should at least brake even...
New model is due in the dealers in March, so think it might be time for a change...

After an hour or so in the garage with Parasene and Mr Sheen...
Off to Dobles, via Wetherspoons... Can't do a deal on an empty stomach...
New 2020 Sh125, £3399, Prep fee £99, Tracker fit £99, Screen £137, Handguards £14 - £3748
Chatted about the £1100 estimated PX as home serviced and no service history etc...
Chatted some more...
He pressed buttons on the calculator a few times...
I came away with a deal i was happy with...
Deposit paid...due March

What on Earth is a prep fee? Preparation of what - paperwork, the bike? Sounds like it's an add-on Paul.

When I purchased a cbf1000 from dobles many years ago there were no such charges as prep fees or for that matter admin charges - they even delivered it to my home here in Scotland free of charge - times do change however and many dealers charge some form of extra - is it an add on - in my opinion it is - in this instance we don’t know the full details of Paul’s negotiations - perhaps he got them to waiver the prep fee to secure the deal - anyway he seems to appreciate the Honda brand and I wish him well with his new acquisition

The "preparation fee," has always been around, in some form or other.

Back when my access to new bike prices was the ads in MCN, they always carried a small print disclaimer that advertised prices were subject to, "OTR," ie On-the-road fees.

That's the rub Capitano - 'in some form or other' means lack of transparency or hidden charges - ie. add-on for the purpose of screwing more money from their customer. In my mind, a 'preparation fee' is the inescapable road tax and first registration etc, which is acceptable. But if this 'fee' is for paperwork and putting the bike together, airing the tyres and biscuits in the biscuit tin etc. etc., ( :D ) then that's sh*te! Preparation and admin is part of the dealers' bleedin job and shouldn't be added.

Blimey these bikes and cars too, have all increased in price above the rate of inflation and it continues; and the dealers still, stick two fingers up at the customer with these 'fees'.

Do I sound disgruntled and grumpy :D
