Just browsing the forum, trying to gather some info on Burgman 650's and the Honda Silverwing 600.

Silverwing's can be picked up for less money than the Burgman. Is there a reason for this? I would have thought the reliability of the Honda brand would put it before a Suzuki?

I've never owned a scooter, by the way.

Burgman 650's are a bit more powerful and luxurious, also heavy and bulky. Ive only ridden a burgman once and found it very smooth and torquey, but a bit heavy. The service cost was also more than I pay for my car.
Ive had 4 silverwings, a brilliant scooter, in all aspects, and the DIY service is quite easy.

There's a simple answer to your question.

Marketing and basic economics.

The Burgman is more current in terms of promotion. The Silverwing (and importantly Honda UK's marketing of the Silverwing) ended some years ago. The 650 Burgman has only just been dropped.

Hence, the media's target when bringing a big scooter into the mix of any story is to choose the Burgman.

Add to that the Burgman was always marketed as more high end, a tourer not a commuter. The Silverwing's persona was more of a luxury-courier-class tool.

With it being more recent, the luxury tourer association, and the media-fed public's insistence that bigger-is-better, demand for the Burgman is greater, hence the price premium over the Silverwing.

I've had a K9 650cc Burgman but now have a 2010 Silverwing, the Silverwing is a better long term keeper for me, both are great scooters. I can service the Silverwing, whereas the Burgman transmission could be beyond my ability. After 2011 year that got sorted by Suzuki and in 2013 had a complete makeover. A Burgman 2011-2013 could be a bargain buy.
The best model for a Silverwing is after 2007 (black painted glove lids) the fuel injection update improved economy.
A Silverwing belt should last 16000 miles+

If you ride, or in some cases merely sit on, both then you are likely to have a preference.

I'm definitely in the B650 camp, I find the SWing too cramped as my knees were too close to the bulkhead.

Also the engine/frame layout of the Burger puts it nearer to bike-like handling, especially if you change the std Bridgestone tyres for the more rounded profile Pirelli.

You will get potentially conflicting advice, so as I said sit/ride both and one will call to you more, although spec wise they look similar they are different solutions to the same aims.
