Key shutter

Hi all
Many thanks for allowing me to join.

I was gifted the 400 by my late father in law. It came with a aftermarket key. I picked the bike up and enjoyed the ride as I had always had sport bikes before.
Once in the garage I started to play and pressed what turned out to be a shutter for the ignition. I can’t release it because I don’t have original keys. Should have read the owner manual first.
I spoke to Suzuki and they said I need a shutter set costing £124 plus a key part number 37146-14F00.
My question finally is will this fix my issue? As I am not convinced.
Is there a simple way of releasing the shutter?

I have a memory that it is done by magnets, but I cant remember how,
but think I read something about it on a US Burgman forum.

Hi Paul and Ralph, many thanks for the reply.
Will post some pics once home.
I have read many of the comments on the US sites but get so many conflicting reports. Some say Shutter set others complete lock set change. I can get an aftermarket lock set from EBay but question quality at £60 ( Suzuki cost near £400 ).
I feel I am the only UK owner to have faced this issue as my Dealer does not seem to know an answer to this one.

The shutter release projection on my Burgman 400 key is magnetic, just checked. I doubt they are all different and I suspect any 400 Burgman key might open the shutter. Worth a try if you know any owners nearby. Whereabouts are you?

It's worth a try, but I seem to remember there being 3 magnets involved that could be in differing positions.
though it's a long time back so memory as blurred a bit.

This is interesting and sort of enforces my memory.

Hello Ralph, I looked at that link and did a quick experiment with my key. Yes there are 3 magnets, mine set at 1 attract , 2 repel against a small magnet. So there are not that many combinations and it won't lock you out after three tries!
PS I've moved since you called to see me once with the Kawasaki W650.

Hi Dogsbody, that's a wile ago the W is long gone replaced by the X-max 300, arthritis in the hand
put me off long journeys with a clutch to operate though I do have 2 older bikes I use locally.
Hope you are keeping well.
