Hi All, I have a couple of vintage Derbi mopeds (1970s) in bits that I will be re-building and wondered if there were any other Vintage Derbi fans out there who would like talk vintage Derbi?

I currently have:
A 1970s Derbi GT4V (it will look like this once re-built) Is a 4 speed 50cc Spanish Moped (my first road bike in 1979) and unrestricted so would beat Fizzies, SS50s and keep up with AP50s all day long.

and a blue Derbi Coyote 4V (again it will look like this once re-built) Same frame and engine as the GT4V, but with a fibreglass all-in-one seat and tank unit, raised exhaust pipe, taller wheels with knobblies, different rear light and aluminium mudguards as opposed to the chrome ones on the GT4V.

Cheers

Anything would beat a ss50, Derbi's were nice mopeds, but I was in love with the yellow fsie-dx.

Excellent! I love old mopeds of all kinds and have had a few of my own over the years; at the moment I have a 1963 Velosolex 2200 I'm working on getting registered.

It was a toss-up at the time between a sparkly purple Fizzy and the Derbi. The Fizzy was used and the Derbi was new but both the same price. I went with the Derbi, but I know what you mean about the Yamaha , everyone wanted one.

Always had a undesirable urge to own a Velosolex or a NSU Quickly.

I always admired the Quickly - but at the time couldn’t afford one! So I bought a £5 basket case Brockhouse Corgi instead....
Used it for 18 miles daily for 9 months - piston seizure daily at 7 mile point on very steep hill nr Crystal Palace - pushed rest of journey! Wipac coil failure nightly on homeward journey - swop coils, aaah the joys of impecunious biking in the ‘50’s....
