Tall rider

Post by Hendo »

Anyone out there who is over 6ft and rides a scoot? I previously owned a Piaggio Bev 350 (the old style where you could remove the lumbar support and sit further back) and this fitted me well but didn't have enough power.

I'm looking to buy a maxi scoot with more power than the Bev but that suits a 6ft 3" rider.

Any suggestions greatly appreciated as Melbourne lockdown has me very limited in what I can try....

I ride a 400 Burgman with the seat pad removed to fit, and it's fine, I've had trouble finding something to change to since. I nearly went for a Cruisym ?sp but it was a wee bit too short in the leg department.

A site that might help you narrow the field:

Hi Hendo, This is a tricky one. I'm 6'2" tall with long legs. I found the Burgman 400 very comfy over big miles, but heavy. So I moved to the Vespa GTS300. This bike may not be of any interest to you, but it might be worth taking a look. They are bigger than you might think, although it is a smaller lighter bike than my Burgman, but it's fast and very very comfortable. It's a diy'ers dream if you do that sort of thing. I've had mine for near 4 years now and it's trouble free. It's not classed as a maxi scooter, but it does the same job very well. Smooth with great handling and roadholding at speed. I cover hundreds of miles a day on occasions. It's one of those bikes that seems to fit most folks very well. Of course the riding position is a bit more upright but you have room to move around on long rides. Most folks who take one out for a test ride come back babbling about how good it is, and they didn't expect it to be so. Try one if you can. And good luck in your search.
Probably not ugly enough for the 'Ugly Bunch'!

Been riding for 55 years & owned too many bikes to list here...

Thanks for the suggestions. The Burgman 400 seems to feature well. I hadn't thought of the Forza or the Vespa GTS. The Vespa is a similar size, and engine to the Bev I had. The Forza has a more modern styling but again a similar engine. I think the Burgman sounds a good possibility. The cycle ergo app gives a good general idea of rider position.
