Hi all,
This is my second xmax purchased it cheap to give myself a little project.
On issue I'm finding it that when I hit 50mph the revs increase but seem to have no drive for a split second, then it picks up again but still feels a little unresponsive about 50.
Your thoughts do you think its the clutch, rollers, belt of variator?
Cheers in advance.

Sorry, I don't know.
(Actually, I'd guess a worn belt but I am no expert).

They are pretty basic so can only presume it to be one of them. I'm just wondering if any has had the same experience. I'm initially thinking variator and rollers as its only at around 50. If it was a belt I don't think it would be so specific to that speed and the clutch pulls ok from standstill although does a very slight squeak at pull off only.

You don't say what mileage the bike has on it. If it's done a fair few miles the variator drive pulley can get ridges forming on it, as can the clutch driven pulley. This means that the belt can take a moment to get out of the ridge when you give here throttle. So this certainly can be a cause of a momentary delay in the gearing altering. The fact you can hear the revs rise may mean this is the clutch driven pulley that is the culprit. There can be other things but I suspect this is the problem. Fix is to replace the pulley/s that is affected. Not too expensive normally.
Probably not ugly enough for the 'Ugly Bunch'!

Thats great yeah its on 25k. Thanks for the info I will look into the ridges and see if there are present. I was debating on the rollers flattening but would make sense with the ridges.

I'm guessing ebay will be the best bet to get both the parts.Data wrote: Tue Nov 03, 2020 4:05 pm You don't say what mileage the bike has on it. Re: Lack of power after 50mph
Another thing to check is whether your belt is very worn. One symptom of a worn belt is a decline in top speed. If its done a lot of miles without any maintenance, it might have issues with ridges, but the belt might also be worn. They are supposed to be a minimum width, but if you are changing a few things in the transmission, putting a new belt (and rollers) will make sense anyway.

By 25k my Piaggio-engined scoots all needed new clutches.

For me 'n my mind / my scoot...
What Mileage n Reg / Year - It's not a Split Fairing model with the screen on the bars by chance?
Belt (Go OE / Mitsuboshi)
Rollers (Dr Pulley, Go OE weight... had issues with going too light, ends up too revvy... or just go with OE weights)
Good clean of the variator and ramps... break cleaner
Check the thickness of the clutch shoes... If pulling away OK, then 'prolly a light deglaze with a rub of wet n dry or sand paper, clean up of the dust in the clutch bell, again deglaze with wet n dry or wire wool is all that is needed : WEAR A MASK... No excuse for not having one in the current climate!

Re: Lack of power after 50mph
Thanks all for your helpful info. I think I'm going to have to buy the clutch, variator tool to get them off or might try and get it to a mates who has an impact drill.
I think I'm going to change the belt no matter what no brainer whilst it is all off. Then check the other components if anything is a little low then change it anyway even if it doesn't need changing immediately but just get it changed for piece of mind.
