Hi all

I purchased a replacement belt from the inter web for my yp250 engine on my scooter.

Fitted it within minutes and was off and out with no problems until I hit higher speeds. At 65+ I became aware of a surging effect. I thought it was the engine missing initially but went through the process of reversing the changes I had made since my last ride and eventually concluded that it was the belt. I swapped belts with the original and the surging effect disappeared.

I must say that I didn’t get an opportunity to measure both belts side by side as I had to swap them over with one still sitting in the clutch otherwise it would have closed up making it harder to replace.

Am I right in thinking that the replacement belt must be the wrong size? I did purchase it from the Chinese motorcycle spares site and used my engine and model year when selecting the part.

Until we know the part number and spec from the replacement belt we can only speculate. More information required for a more positive response.Cheers.

As per Muddyfox, but my own experience is that it is very easy to get the wrong belt unless buying from a specialist dealer. I had a series of scooters with Piaggio drivetrains and twice had the wrong belt supplied from 3rd parties despite the right model details being supplied. It turned out that the manufacturer had mis-identified the specific models that their belt fitted. I only resolved the problem by buying another brand's product, at which point the error was obvious.

I have just bought a replacement belt for my cruisym 300i. I am at 28,600kms and belt change is due at 30,000km. When i changed the belt at 15000km it cost £144 just for the belt. The one i have just bought is from JTMax (£45) who is a UK maker, and quoted the correct manufactures part number, they appear to make belts for just about every scooter, so i hope the quality is there. anyone on here every bought one of their belts? Or can comment on them?

Hi all. The belt I bought was a Lextek Drive Belt 871-23-30 from the Chinese motorcycles parts site. This belt was £10 so I’m starting to think it’s rubbish.

I refitted the original belt and have done approx 500 miles on it since and have not had the sensation I originally described.

I use Taiwanese belts on the Helix, ever since I had a very expensive Honda Bando one snap half way through its duty cycle. I would stop short of using Chinese belts though. A Gates belt, or some such, won't break the bank and will do the job.

you need to get a service manual and check the minimum size tolerance and do a length test on the new one vs the old.

maybe it needs time to seat. inspec both side by side. maybe it isnt for your majesty.

you can buy a cheap belt, but also, dont throw away your old belt. keep the old as a spare just in case the new rips. then when it gets to. always kep spare parts just in case. its for an emergency fix till you get another. but even an old spark plug may be useful just as an emergency "just in case" rollers also

btw, you scuff up the clutch bell (200 grit)and deglazze the pads(400 grit) with sandpaper before reinstalling? did you take apart the clutch to clean and regrease (hi temp grease) the bearings and guide pins/collar? check your contra spring for tolerance also with a caliper.

Hi all I purchased a jt max belt for my kymco400i in 2020 from wemmoto have now covered 4000 miles on it with no problem fitted it myself with new rollers no different from the OEM belt but less than a third of the price of the OEM
