As the title says, my SYM Joymax has been written off.
Was at a wildlife park for a day out and as leaving I overheard the entrance staff saying they had to find the owner of a scooter that had been knocked down.
Went down to carpark to find that yep it was my Joymax that had been hit. The wildlife staff had picked it back up. The mirror/indicator stalk was snapped off
and hanging by the wire, panels were cracked and scratched. Exhaust pipe had a massive dent in it. She'd hit the exhaust, which shot the bike off its stand and
of course it crashed down on its side on the gravel - it was a gravel car park. The lady had left her name and number but not stuck around. Got her insurance details
she didn't sound to bothered at all by what she'd done and apparently told the wildlife park staff it was just a little scratch?! It was quite a big carpark and I was
parked in the middle well away from other cars. Sunny day, plenty of room to manoeuvre but nope she clearly didn't even look before reversing across the car park
and ploughing right into my scooter. As you all know Maxi's aren't exactly small. It's bright blue, the top box had the reflective strip and there's the big square
yellow number plate. It was a youngish woman, when on the phone you could hear her kids kicking off. No doubt distracted by them when she was behind the wheel.
Anyhow insurance company took it away and write it off as category N. Her insurance has paid up, I got quite a good amount actually way more than if I sold it privately
I could of bought it back but it was due for a big service and it needed around £1500 to fix all the damage she caused. So just took the money and will buy a new one after
winter.
Just annoys me out of all places to be taken out. Absolutely ridiculous how she managed to hit it in such a big and not very full car park. Even the wildlife park staff were
stunned by how she managed it and her not to bothered attitude. Just shows the terrible standard of driving these days can strike just about anywhere!

At least she was insured...
And hopefully she'll be 'bovvered' when she gets her next insurance quote.

(No idea why this went on twice - can't delete!)

Re: My Scooter was written off
My brand new Vespa GTS 300 was knocked over when it was a few months old. It was parked in a designated m/c parking spot. A blithering idiot knocked it over and drove off after picking it up. Thankfully this was witnessed by a few people working in a restaurant over the road. They put a note on my screen and took the details of the car involved. I reported it to the coppers who tracked him down very sharpish. It was a Merc driven by an old bloke, he said he'd not got his hearing aid turned on so couldn't hear the reversing beepers going off. I guess his eye stopped working too. The coppers did him over as he'd driven off without reporting what he'd done in the hope of getting away with it and he had to attend some sort of class. The repair came in at just over £2k, which his insurance paid. I feel for you, there's a lot of people out that should really accept they are twats.

Perhaps she had had a drink or a "fag" or was with someone she shouldn't have been and didn't want questions asked.

She wasn't driving a Tesla was she?? Been out in the town today as a pedestrian and nearly mown down TWICE by people trying to reverse in their gross Tesla SUV thingies. I can only conclude that there's no rear visibility at all from them!

Re: My Scooter was written off
I had no idea what she was driving. She didn't stick around and when I first phoned her from the wildlife park she was all ''I didn't see it! My partner deals with the insurance!'' So gave her my number and told her to give me her details today. Ended up having to phone again later to find it was her partner who answered. No apology but he gave the details. Sounded like a mature 40-50ish man and she a 30 ish woman. Probably her sugar daddy. But luckily the bloke wasn't rude, sounded like they must be fairly well off. But at least she left her details and gave the insurance details. How readily her insurance paid up at least meant she owned up without an argument. So guess it would of been a new car. Which most these days have rear cameras. I think she was distracted by her kids as when I first spoke to her I could hear them screaming and playing up. The ironic thing is when I parked my scooter where it was in the belief no one would hit it there... How wrong I was!
I'm going to wait until after winter to buy a replacement. I've got my eyes on the new SYM Joymax Z+ 300. Basically the same scooter but facelifted and actually a little lighter. Only downside is despite having the same motor being Euro 5 vs Euro 3 it's a little down on power. But it does look a lot nicer. No longer has the combined mirror/indicators, which make them look ungainly and offer poor rear visibility.

You might get a better deal if you bought now rather than waiting for spring as long as you have somewhere to store it.
