My 400 Burgman Scooter is not Happy. Its two and half years old, 24000 miles done. Problem is its reving up to 9000 r.p.m but only doing 68 M P H. Does anybody out there have a simple explanation. My friend has the same model and it does 90 M P H at 9000 r p m. Help me, Trevor Henderson.

Drive belt been changed recently? Should be changed around 14K miles.

As Stibbs says, make sure drive belt has been renewed, although I suspect it has as the b400 tends to break belts if they go much beyond 20k. 14,500 miles is normal belt change mileage. When your symptoms occur it's normally the variator sticking due to belt dust or indeed the rollers sticking or being very worn. Clutch sheaves can also stick so you end up effectively running in low gear ratios and being unable to reach top speed. Get the tranny pulled apart and check condition of everything. If anyone has used loads of grease in there on the shafts or rollers that will be all or part of the problem.
