So the standard 160x60R14 is fecking expensive irrespective of make and choices are limited. So what do you do You use the old rule of thumb up or down 10 in size.
So 150x70R14 it is then. £45 cheaper. Raises the seat about 18mm easier to get it on the centre stand and tips into corners a bit better. Downsides mmm! Can't think of any but I dont carry masses of luggage or a pillion so no idea if the extra 18mm in circumference would give you chub rub if you do.

Re: Burgman 650 Rear tyre
You seem to have answered your own question!
Although speaking as someone who has had two of these beasts, I'd be careful about messing with tyre size especially on the rear. I used to cover very large mileages each year, spending lots of time riding at speed in all weathers. The bikes were great but the one time I fitted a marginally smaller section rear tyre (was an emergency in France) the bike developed a significant weave at speed. When I got back to blighty I swapped out the tyre for the proper size and handling went back to normal. Just saying what I found.

Raises the seat 18mm? That sounds a lot, given that the tyre height shouldn't be that much difference!

Re: Burgman 650 Rear tyre
In fact the tyre radius will hardly change at all as Roadster says. The other point to be aware of is that a 150 tyre will sit marginally lower in the rim so the 9mm extra depth is going to be reduced to less than half that. Don't know where you get 18mm extra height from. You could lose valuable grip though and on the 650 that isn't good. You want all you can get.

Ouch! there I was thinking I was going to get cheaper tyres now I've got a scooter. Pirelli diablo £123.99 I didn't pay that much for the bike tyres. I think im going to have to do some shopping around.

Well the bike has been well and truly tested at high speed so no issues to report. As for the 18mm I measured it but you can use this link to clarify. This is my second 650 got this one in 2016 it is a 14 plate but had a mere 8 miles on the clock ex demo bike. Now has 73k on the clock.

Faint hope! Maxi tyres aren't that common in the UK, so they can charge what they like! With Bike tyres, with 17" wheels and relatively few sizes, there's lots of choice, and often bargain deals to be had.

Re: Burgman 650 Rear tyre
Yeah, that site confirms a 9mm radius increase. But when fitted the slimmer tyre will give you around 4 to 5 mm increase in height. Trust me, I've fitted hundreds of tyres as a tech. It's a negligible increase and that information on the site is not strictly factual when it comes to speed information.maccecht wrote: ↑Sun Feb 27, 2022 12:30 pm Well the bike has been well and truly tested at high speed so no issues to report.
