125 commuter

I'm seriously considering flogging my car and buying a 125 to commute to work on, the new SYM mask after putting £500 deposit will cost me less a month on HP than I put in my car every month. Also I will be able to filter, I might regret it in winter, but defo leaning that way atm.

With the cost of petrol these days, it might definitely be worth it! And depending on where you park for work, you might save a fortune in car park fees.
Some electric scoots are now worth considering, with performance equivalent to a 125 and usable range - the downside being that the purchase cost is a lot, equivalent to a really nice 350 scoot.

My 33 year old, 140mpg Honda 90 is being used a lot more for local trips, lately...

IF you have your own kit already and know enough to maintain them and have a licence, small scoots are a no-brainer. For a complete newbie, I suspect they end up costing a bit more than they bargained for (or get zero maintenance). Theft can be an issue in many places, which may put some people off too. The thing is, that councils/government are generally hostile to them and don't facilitate them as a transport option. Nationwide bus lane access would help, as would better parking (signposted, always free, something to lock to. Lockers in town centre car parks would be great too). There was a step forward in the latest Highway Code, with the hierarchy putting us above cars, but this seems to be based on safety, rather than preferred option. Yet councils will fall over themselves to promote electric cycles. What are they going to do when electric scooters (i.e. 125 equivalents) get really popular?

A friend of ours made the same decision some years back. She's a Nurse and her shifts often didn't align with public transport, and she resented paying out so much to have a reliable, decent car.

She pretty much changes her scooter every year, trading in for a different one. She's had Aprilia, Honda and Yamaha so far, and reckons she's quids in, even before recent fuel price hikes.

If you're going t do similar I wouldn't even worry about the Moto GB factor in buying a Sym.
