Hmm. I'd rather have half the range and it be a 300cc equivalent though

Nice, but I am really loving my NC750x DCT to swap over to electric I'd want as a bare minimum around the equivalent BHP capable of 70mph over 150-200 miles, oh and I'd need a house with garage because trying to charge the bike from a 9th floor flat would be rather difficult.

Well...438km at 'City' speeds - ie riding very slowly, but this reduces to 160km at 'Highway' speeds. OK 100km is still usable, but not enough for a big day out.
There are several elec scoots around that do have sufficient performance (of a 125 petrol scoot) and range of around 50 miles when used rapidly which are actually quite sufficient for local trips, but they still cost a fortune. I'm hoping that technoloogy will move on a bit to give us 250-350cc equiv performance at a decent price - but I guess we are going to have wait a long time until range of around 150 miles at highway speeds is achievable.

I think changing batteries at fuel station's is the way to go for the foreseeable future. I was reading about a system in Asia that looked promising, simple and easy to use.
I'm posting this on my kindle so I can't post a link if I get the chance I'll try tomorrow

Interesting read....“critical raw materials”.
https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfr ... -advantage

" It turns out that an all-electrical future won’t be possible without secure supplies of certain elements we extract from the Earth’s crust. And we’re discovering that there are rather a lot of these critical elements. A full roll call runs from antimony to strontium via cobalt, lithium, magnesium, platinum, tantalum – not to mention other stuff of which this columnist had until recently been blissfully unaware. "

Not my style of machine but it shows that if you don't mind weight and long charging times ( or specialist high speed chargers ) any range is achievable. My Silence S01 has 1/3 of the battery capacity which is enough for a realistic 50 miles range at normal speeds ( limited to just over 60 mph ) but 80 miles if you settle for 40 mph and slower acceleration. Allowing for the fact that the battery has a built in charger and weighs 40kg you would guess that the 17.4 KW.h battery of this bike weighs about 90 kg.

For reference my plug-in hybrid car has a battery of lower capacity than this bike and I can charge it in 6 hours using normal household 13 amp sockets near their limit at 10 amps ( AC ).

How are you finding the Silence? I did toy with one a while back as I noticed that the riding I'd done over the winter was well within the Silence's capabilities, but was put off by the price. How is ride and handling, especially out of town (if you venture there!)
