The most bizarre thing that's floating around is an Italjet Dragster 500 concept, which is a freaky bike/scooter hybrid. Manual gearbox, chain drive, but in a scooter format!

I wouldn't be against buying another one and the upgrades are very attractive, especially the improved suspension. I notice that the description of the braking system hasn't changed and in my experience its not correct. According to the power meter regenerative action operates on the left lever and it doesn't seem to work in city mode. It is uncomfortably severe in eco mode and kicks in even if touching the lever gently. In sport mode its OK but still quite fierce. I would like to have seen the battery wheel mechanism strengthened, its still a bit of an achilles heal in my opinion.

Yeah, I quite like the look of that and the push to pass thing looks helpful, although sustaining that speed for a decent period would be even better. You are right of course. Servicing & fuelling the bike is cheaper but the real advantages come with longer term ownership. The motors simply don't wear out in the same way that ice engined bikes do. Performance should remain quite constant, not dropping off as the bike approaches service time after doing some big miles. That's arguable! Modern petrol engines will run and run and run, as long as you change oil/filters/spark plugs regularly, and as long as something in the electronics doesn't go bang! On the other hand, batteries on Elec vehicles do decline and do become useless in a far shorter timescale than IC engines do. As yet, we don't have any experience of how electric motors will fare over time, given that everything on a bike is subjected to the ordeal by salt, water, muck and vibration that constitutes UK roads.Data wrote: ↑Wed Nov 09, 2022 1:05 pm

Not really - filters, oil & plugs are pretty cheap & easy to do, though yes, they have to be done regularly. Yes, you can swap the Silence's battery easily at any time - but at a serious cost! £1,000? £2,000? more?? If you do have to replace the battery after a few years, the scoot is in monetary terms scrap, as the batteries will cost more than the scoot is worth.

Personally, I wouldn’t have one. Why? I own a Volt electric cycle. Cost me £1500 over four years ago. It does an easy 40 miles per charge (could do 60 if sensible) so for getting around locally, which this scooter is designed for, is a doddle. I don’t need to insure it and, with panniers, can carry the same amount. My Volt is serviced exactly the same as a normal cycle. It’ll chug along comfortably at 15mph. It’s light, can be parked anywhere and also, with my towbar carrier taken with me on the car.
Sorry, electric scooters have along, long way to go before I’d even consider one.
