I popped into the Honda Main Dealer today to enquire to the cost for the 8000 mile service on my 2019 Honda NC750X DCT.
I was informed that it would cost £601 🤯
I was in too much shock to ask if that was including VAT
Ridiculous amount.

What? Thats nuts... I have done all my own servicing so far but after an oil change and checks this year the next one involves checking the valves so as its a bit of a faff taking teh radiator off etc and the fact I don't really want to risk messing it up myself I am thinking of taking it to my nearest mechanic. I have MOT due soon so will be asking how much they would charge just for the valve check. I'll let you know how expensive that is as it will be your next service if you get one done at 16k ;)

Independent garage would be way cheaper. I don't think the 8k service a major one either.

Given yours isn't under warranty I'd steer clear of of main dealer.

They said that it needs the Brake Fluid changing every two years 😏
They also said it includes the valves, but like you said the Manual states 16000
I've seen Service Kits for sale from £70 with both Oil and DCT Aftermarket Filters.
Some kits even include sparkplugs and Air Filter for £106

My guess is it's about 4 hours work and probably about £200 of parts, plus 20% VAT on the lot.

At a Honda dealer I'd expect a labour cost of £80 per hour at a minimum. I wouldn't be surprised if it's more.

So, 4 x £80 = £320. Plus £200 parts = £520. Add the VAT at 20% and we're up to £624.

A £601 estimate is in that region and that's what I'd expect.

Check the manual and see what it really needs and get an independent to price that up.

My brake fluid is 5 years old, it hasn't been changed since I purchased the bike in 2018 second hand, its a 2017. I have a bottle of brake fluid, I just never get around to doing it. I normally just buy the Service kits on eBay and then check the bits I am supposed to check and regrease certain areas to ensure good running. Its so easy to work on yourself.

A few times I asked my garage to change the brake fluid and they said not to bother. A quick bleed firms them back up.

Air filter, oil, oil filter all easy to do yourself. The valves I'll get the garage to do as mines passed 33k. Garage checks the coolant for me. Other than that it's wear and tear parts.

I've never serviced an NC750x dct but £601 sounds about right for a main dealer. Most main dealers are charging between £100-£120 per hour. My Piaggio dealer is £120ph. If the valves are involved it's a bigger job on the NC and if they need adjusting the cams have to come out with everything that involves ie: camchain splitting, plugs out etc. Just to check and adjust the valve clearances is going to be at least 2hrs on those. It's a lot of work just to get to them. And don't forget, to get to the top of the engine quite a bit of bodywork & stuff has to come off, including the seat and fake fuel tank of course, and it all takes time.

Ian not on the NC. You just have to take the rad off to get to the head.
