Now this lass wasn't going to let any one nick her bike

Does show how easy it is to break a bike lock.

Very impressed that passers by helped out. This is really the only way to discourage this kind of thuggery - strength of numbers. All that's needed now is police to back the public up, and vice-versa of course.

Good on her! But a couple of decent locks would have prevented it from happening in the first place. A 12 year-old would have thought 'F... this. I'll go and find an easier target.' And with the number of bikes I see sitting there unlocked he wouldn't have had to look for long. I never as much as turn my back on mine unless it has at least a cable lock on it. With the number of thieving lowlifes about.

I thought they did well.
I'm afraid living in Mega City 2 I did wonder where her locks were. There were a few comments over the weekend about me using the X-Lite when more rural types didn't even lock the ignition. I fear the scum who live here abouts know the same, so worth keeping in mind. Better to use the lock when you don't need it than regret not using it when your bike is being used to run drugs and snatch phones.
I also read Plod got arsey with the owner. Usual claptrap they come up with when they fear their monopoly on hitting people is threatened. Was the scratters human rights violated, did she use hurtful words etc. Sad times.

To be fair to the lass she should be able to park the bike long enough to pick up a drink without it getting nicked. I do have a disc lock but rarely use it. If it's parked in the city center I use it, any where else no. It must be said most of the places it get's parked are so far out in the sticks they would never find it.
On the subject of the police I once dialled 999 about a group of teenagers causing trouble and was put on hold for forty minutes.

No matter where I am, even out in the sticks, I use what I call the '30 seconds rule'. If it is going to be out of my sight for more than 30 seconds it is locked up. At the very least a cable lock through a wheel. 30 seconds is all these scumbags, who could have spotted me approaching, need to push it away. Call me paranoid if you like but rather that than to find an empty space where my scooter used to be.
