Help and ideas please folks
My 400 burgman 65 plate less than 7000 miles, plenty of fuel , Plenty of life in the battery, it lives on an optimate battery maintainer.
Started fine as usual rode off 800 yards and the engine died and would not restart....spins over fine but no hint of firing
Checked the plug and no spark, tried another plug, no different
Connectors to coil are clean and tight

I'm a bit stumped so any ideas

If the fuel pump primes you have an ignition feed to the ECU so that side, immobilisers etc. are not to blame; change the coil or HT lead.

If any other part of the ignition on cycle isn't happening it's time for the wiring diagram and meter.

Is the engine light on?

Yes the fuel pump primes when the side stand switch is closed, no dash lights (apart from ABS of course) once the self test is completed

Most coils meter out at 15 OHMs -ish but chances are if fried it'll be open circuit or a dead short.

Is the rear brake switch reliable? Similarly the side stand switch staying closed or flicking on / off in motion? I know I tend to think of the "worst" failure possible when I get a problem but in my experience it usually turns out to be a comparatively minor thing. Just a thought - think small and work bigger.

the sidestand switch works as it's supposed but I'm not sure what the rear brake switch would have to to with anything though? Can you explain?

Thanks for that, it's nice to talk to someone who knows his stuff

Next question..is it with taking a punt on a £25 chinese one or lash out £125 on an OEM one?

No one has directly mentioned the kill switch except by inference, so its definitely worth bypassing that before looking for the expensive stuff.

The micro switch on the left brake (Silverwing) is a double action switch which requires to work to complete the starter circult. I made up a wire connector to bypass it. Think its the same point of failure on the Burgmans.

I'm afraid it's all rather guesswork diagnosing remotely, no crystal ball.

I always go with a reputable distributor, say Wemoto or Fowlers. Chinese tat on E-bay is gambling. Wemoto's second cheapest, just not in an OEM box tends to be fine. Even branded can be dodgy on E-bay, any fool can scan and print a box.

Would the side stand and brake light switch let it turn over? Very good call if they will.
