I'm not having a great day. My mk3 Tmax has suddenly started making some nasty rattling noises from the front end, so I was going to take it to the workshop. However, in senior moment of stupidity, I managed to simulltaneously lock my house keys under the seat of the Tmax and my scooter keys inside the house! Very elegant conundrum...especially as my phone was under the seat with the house keys! So I had to find a neighbour (very few around) to use their phone....AA couldn't help so I had to get a locksmith to break into my own home, which he did disturbingly easily. That's another £85 gone.....

Uh oh! Shit happens Grumpy...sorry to hear this. At least the price you paid for the locksmith is not too bad. You can easily pay twice that around here where I live. Hope everything gets sorted ok mate.

I always try to tell myself when this sort of thing happens is that at least its the sort of problem that money can fix. Problems that can't be fixed with money tend to be far more serious!

I do sympathize but I'm chuckling inwardly: 'There but for the grace of God go I'.
I realised recently that having a house key on both my car and bike keys doesn't help if I lose them so I've now got one on a bright red boot-lace which I carry in my pocket separate from everything else.
You've confirmed I've done the right thing.

I never put phone/keys/wallet under the seat they go in jacket or jeans pocket, if I take my jacket off I have a belt bag for the phone like this

Yes. I have 3 vehicles, so 3 sets of vehicle keys, and a set of house keys, and I almost always put my house keys in my jacket pocket, and I normally store the jacket in the topbox when parked up. However, for some erroneous reason, I thought I'd better keep the house keys with me, so put them in a shoulder bag (with my phone), which I put under the seat. My great error was to forget to pick up the Tmax keys, then lock the house up with the house keys, put them in the bag which went under the seat (the seat was unlocked), lock the seat down - then wonder where the Tmax keys were! Such an elegant problem - the house keys were locked in the scoot, and the scoot keys were locked in the house - and I had no keys (or phone) at all!

I'm normally paranoid about checking exactly where my house keys are and I'm always checking that I've got them and that I've haven't lost them.....and then this happens!

I had a pretty crazy senior incident myself yesterday when what I thought was a technical problem connecting to a remote computer was because I had never set the password when I built it. Two hours wasted trying to fix something that wasn't broken!

Regarding house keys I have a process which I obviously won't go in to in detail, but it involves a kind of treasure hunt in my garden which indirectly leads to a key which is locked up elsewhere which in turn allows me to unlock another location which hides another key. Eventually I can retrieve my spare house key!

Of course there is always the danger of forgetting that sequence of locations. Perhaps I should have it tattooed on my arm!

Oh dear. I was once cleaning my MG Montego in a hangar on an airfield miles from anywhere and had the engine running for reasons I cannot recall. What I DO recall however, is leaning in to flick the electric window switch up to lift the door glass so I could polish it on the outside.

Bu**er.

Luckily, Montegos were not that hard to beak into without causing any damage.

Don't talk to me about paranoia over imaginary faults! When the nasty rattle started on the Tmax I was riding home moderately carefully but then got into a strange skid entering a corner (almost certainly due to mud on the country road, or from a tractor towing a trailer full of sh-you know what that I came across shortly afterwards). But at the time I was convinced I'd got a rear puncture so nursed the scoot home at 10mph - only to find that the tyres were fine! Its not the first time I've convinced myself I've got a puncture.....

Grumpy it's a good job you and me don't ride together cause we wouldn't get very far . I do that a lot probably because I ride a lot on country roads as well. I wish they had put traction control on the Burgman cause I've spun the back wheel a few times on crappy surfaces
