Very quiet - where are the Burgman owners?

Never known it to be so quiet in this section of the site. We know there are lots of Burgmans out there...but presumably, without issues! That great if that's the case. But it would be nice to see that someones Burgman has blown up & they want to know how to put it together again!!

It makes us old people feel redundant!

Good news and bad news I'm afraid.
Due to the current climate here (very cold indeed) and being very conscious of doing my bit towards helping stop global warming, I have not been heating my home this winter. Instead I decided to thoroughly test my camping gear and have the tent pitched in my lounge, three inch thick sleeping mat and my really cosy warm sleeping bag. Once inside the smaller tent area it get's surprisingly warm aided by my downstairs neighbours having their heating on - which in turn gives the (slight) effect of under floor heating!

It's a win, win situation!
To try and answer some of your questions, I have come to the conclusion that Suzuki dealers are really expensive, so I have started to do my own servicing. Early last year I changed the drive belt and rollers, mid summer I did a valve inspection and adjusted clearances, next my front tyre was changed and balanced at 18,000 miles with the front calipers serviced at the same time. This year and at 19,000 miles it's got a new back tyre, rear caliper serviced and pads changed as they were wearing unevenly. I have a guy who I can call or message if I get stuck with anything, that or look online for MicB's tutorials.
Blimey, you must be saying? You must be rich now!
Somehow it doesn't always work like that, my electricity payments are just the same, yet to see any benefit to my long standing suffering and money just tends to slip through my fingers, mainly on parts for the bike.
Surely there's some good news? Well, sort off, depending which way you look at it.
My bike is up for sale (If not I'll part-exchange) as last week I put down a deposit on a new bike.. but it's not a scooter.. almost a naked bike.. black and gold.. 21" front wheel, 52cc bigger...

Mine has been sitting waiting for me to go out and attack the duff headlight bulb for nearly a month now. I did make a half-hearted attempt, but the rubber cover has stuck fast and I don't fancy rolling on the floor with something to prise it off! If it's not raining it's freezing!
To think I moved south for the weather! It's 10C warmer in Edinburgh than in Bournemouth today!

I often get the impression that everyone has traded whatever they've got for a Forza 350.

Not a chance. Couldn’t give me a Forza mainly because I can’t put my feet down on the ground. I’ll stick with the Burgman, my second, and the C125 and CT125.

Mine is still going well, Jan 2nd marked three years since I bought it, don't the time fly. I started servicing it about five weeks ago, changed all the oils and did a couple of other jobs and then caught some sort of bug which put me out of doing any thing for about a week. As soon as I got better there was a family illness so lots of trips to hospital and shopping and other stuff, patient recovering very well I'm glad to say, by which time it was Christmas, new year then it snowed so I still haven't changed the plugs and the coolant which are the next two jobs. It's not getting a lot of use at the moment so it doesn't matter to much. The forecast looks good for Thursday so I'm hoping to get out for an hour or two.

Well I just bought another one last month, a 2001 400 with 37k miles on the clock for £250. It's had a hard life so full strip down in progress. Back caliper and pistons have been butchered and can't get the parking brake piston anywhere. Might het my mate to turn a pair up on the lathe in stainless. On another note, my 1998 an250 was going to take me on a camping trip this weekend but found out that the pub next to the campsite is shut till next weekend so going in March now instead, so I decided to order a new pair of tyres because it looks like they have been on from new as only done 7000 miles. Ordered a set of Anlas Winter Grip, also giving the brakes a going over, took me 4 hours to get the back wheel off and loads of WD40 and GT85 plus a big rubber hammer from the back. Cleaned the splines and going to put some CV joint grease on the splines. Think someone may have used Coppaslip in the past and it's nearly welded the ally wheel to the steel shaft.

I've got a 650 but I just don't enjoy riding it. I know I was spoilt by a pair of 560 TMax. I only bought a Burgman cause I know no one would want to steal it, unlike the TMaxs.
I'm starting to think it's time for a change after a year with a Burgman. My current favourite is a Kymco AK550 as second-hand prices are reasonable and hopefully less appealing to the thieving scum than another TMax.

Hi Data.
It's been a while since I've contributed on here but I have visited a number of times. My AN400 is still going strong, and I use it a few times a week. Besides replacing the battery (due to lack of use!) It's not needed any attention besides putting fuel in and air in the tyres now and again. It's been super reliable really, I cannot fault it. I went through it's MOT again with no advisaries. It's still making that popping noise sometimes when turning off, but knee and back problems (just old age) mean I havent yet had the valve cover off to change the shims. I was thinking of taking it to the local bike shop but haven't bothered as yet. Still using your tip about quick take offs and lower wear on the centrifugal clutch and no problems in that area. I could say it's been boringly reliable but don't want to tempt fate so I'll say it's been super reliable. 2 batteries, 1 front tyre, a headlight bulb, and regular oil changes, and nothing else to report. I have thought about something lighter, like the ADV350 or XMax300, but really the Burger still fits all my needs.
Ride safe! Peter

He probably won't see your response, personally, but it is valid and valuable anyway.
