New Carnaby 200ie owner

Post by Baverhanne_2025 »

Hi,
Male, 44 years old, motorcycle license since 3 years.
First bike MT07, second to present - Desert Sled 2021
Third "bike" A 2007 Carnaby 200ie.

The Carnaby seems to be a quite unpopular model?
At least in Sweden theres only a few of them, also har to find specific parts for it.

I hired a Carnaby 300 in crete. Was horrible to turn due to a very worn head bearing.

Luckely the head bearing on my scoot is in mint condition :) But - Haven`t driven it more then maybe 80km due to the swedish winter, even on a scoot 0 degrees celsius is a tad to cold... After that the weather totally turned on me and gave us a longer period with -10 to -18 degrees :(

Except the horrible turning, how was it compared to other scoots? Only taken a test run on a 300GTS, dont have much to compare with when it comes to scoots...

I'm not even sure that they were ever officially imported to the UK.

Maybe most went to Greece and Scandi markets.

The 200 certainly had a very short model life, even in its native Italy.

The only time I can remember seeing one was in Rome in 2008.

Like in "slow" or more like "really well used and ready for retirement"?

My impressions during the first test rides was that the GTS300 felt slower... Shouldnt be, might be because my baseline of reference shifted while fixing up my daughters 49cc moped during eraly winter. The Sled hasn`t moved an inch since November.

Looks great.

Piaggio styling can be very "marmite." One rider's, "elegant Italian lines," is another rider's, "fell out of the ugly tree."

I'm not 100% certain but with the x8 range at the forefront, I'm pretty sure that the UK market got the X7 models, along with the Beverlys, instead of the Carnaby models.

In the world of scooter i'm certain of that the Carnaby "fell down the ugly tree" 🤣
Its not even remotely good looking.
Reason for buying this was to have a cheap way to try scooters, this was amongst the cheapest ones out there.
750euro, everything working and only tipped over one or twice.
If I like it I'll get something more modern with just a tad more power.
But just as with my Desert Sled and my present car DS4 phev 2024- they are rare in Sweden.
Its a nice feeling about riding something that not many others have.

Oh, last question in this thread. Does the Carnaby fit in the Maxi och Mini muppet category?
