Carnaby 200ie - the scooter that doesnt fit anywhere :)

Apparently this particular scooter was aimed towards womans.
Smaller than the BV and a little bit bigger than the Liberty.
I guess that no one except Piaggio found the size a good fit.
By my so far limited use of it I would say it handles quite ok.
Carburated 200cc "easy start"/electric choke and a real fuel pump.

Took it apart yesterday for the 18000km service, I was surprised by the amount of stuff that I needed to remove just to gain access! Belt replacement, carb removal, cleaning and replacing coolant system etc.
Ok ut was the first time working with it but I spent 8 good hours doing so just because all of the body panels..
Picture below of it undressed, a healthy amount of coolant on the ground (hose slipped a bit)
Valve adjustment was a piece of cake on this one compared to the desmo :)

Ok, after the "big" service that included ultra sonic cleaning of the carburator (well needed) it was time for a test ride...
First start attempt and it started after two turns 👌
Now it did respond directly to throttle input, the hesitation it had when i bought it was totally gone.
Now I only have the disturbing harmonic vibration between 70-85km/h - Must be due to a badly balanced rear wheel (front I`ve balanced my self.
Will remove the rear wheel during this week and balance that also...
Picture from Sweden (Roslagen) in front of an old mill, behind the mill is Rånäs castle located. 5+ celsius outside with no signs of rain.

Reached a whopping 120km/h on a straight road (indicated) :)
Even managed to overtake a car that was running 80km/h - not as quick as with the Sled but the little Carnaby did just fine!

Nice. Quite niche but better than a 125cc. I had a couple of 150cc Elystar many years ago and appreciated the extra little bit of power over the base 125.

Carnaby? Is that the make? Sounds like it was made in China and given a western name.

Carnaby is the model :)
Full name is Piaggio Carnaby 200ie, it sits between Piaggio Liberty and Beverly in size.
Uses the water cooled and carbed 200cc leader engine also found in the Vespa 200GT.

They sold them here too. According to howmanyleft there are 27x 125cc and 1x 200cc on the road in the UK.

So I should either look at it as I`m one of a few exclusive and lucky owners of this rarity, or - as I bought the scooter that no one wanted and will never be able to sell it :)
Would be interesting to see how many of these that was actually manufactured...

In 2010 (the peak) there were 194x 125cc and 9x 200cc. So pretty rare even then!

But then I ride a 2022 Kymco DT X360 320cc. Same website reckons there are only 33....

That would explain it.
