I try to keep an open mind but there is nothing there to suggest I can ride 180 miles, spend ten minutes stretching my legs then do another 180. Will it do my Leeds to Devon day trips?
Maybe America being America they do want maxi performance for jobs a 125 would do in Asia or Europe?

Doesn't it look like that weird BMW elec scoot? Without some idea of range and performance (and price!), its hard to judge whether it makes sense or not.

Yes.
The stylists get briefs from the company's crayoning crowd. They work from data gathered from multiple sources but all theoretical when there is no product.
Imagine the (un) focus group. Mr. Harley ain't touching it no matter if it comes with twenty foot forks, a 200 dB exhaust and a Playboy model on the back. Mr. Prius hates all that and probably likes a look that announces it's not said Harley. He's going to say he's open to the idea of buying one.
The crayoning crowd in every company gets the same "data", so they all end up looking like they were drawn by Samsonite. It's half the reason all cars after 1990 look the same.
Given how people buy Vespas, Enfields, Harleys etc. and weird stuff meant to attract non-riders always fail (Aprillia 6.5 , DN-1 anyone? ) I'm not thinking they made the right choice, but we'll see.
