Odometer under recording

A bit of a random one.

I have had my Kymco Exciting a year now and have just taken it for its first MOT (all passed), but I noticed that the mileage on the certificate was lower than I expected it to be.

This might sound strange but I don't pay much attention to the mileage while riding (I'm not one for working out the mpg or things like that), i just occasionally reset the trip counter from time to time.

Anyway, I did the maths and my bike is saying that it's only done 600 miles since I bought it, when I know I have done well over double that!

I'm not complaining, but does anyone know if this is common for Kymcos? Or have I just got a doggy Odometer?

Weird! I was going to ask if it was reading in km rather than miles, but then realised that you have the opposite issue! If you had worked out your fuel consumption, you'd have been alarmed at how uneconomical it was!

Yes I thought km too. Till I remembered the SYM I used to have (also made in Taiwan) read in miles. Apart from that no explanation.

It has just occurred to me that the wrong odometer may have been used. It can be hard to figure out which button to press to get the total mileage one if the tester is unfamiliar with the machine.

Possible - I know the Tmax had Odo, Trip1, Trip2, Oil-trip, and VbeltTrip meter readings and the displays aren't always easy to read and tell which it is that's displayed.

Mystery solved.

So as well as Trip A and Trip B there is a 3rd unnamed trip counter before you get back to the ODO reading. Combine this with a dodgy button that makes it easy to skip any of these with one push, and the rest is history.

I went back to the MOT centre and they have corrected the mileage, so it's all good now.
