• ADV 350 new or used?

I finally got out on an ADV 350 the other day after pondering getting shot of the Vstrom 650 for several years. Absolutely loved it. Ok so its a massive drop in power and I really like to horse about a bit but what I loved was how light and nimble it was in comparison and it handled way better than I thought it would. I think I am probably going to get one. However we are away in the motorhome on another long trip with the little Honda Vision 110 on board and won't return until November so its probably pointless buying one this year.

I was thinking to buy in March but its likely we will be away again by May. As our nearest dealers will be an 80 mile round trip the first 600 mile or two month service could be a pain. I thought about buying a nearly new one thats ready to go with no service schedule to worry about until after the first year but I gather there was quite a few changes including adjustable rear shocks in 2026.

Just wondered what peoples thoughts were. Anyone got one and what are your thoughts on the bike?

Well, its obviously cheaper to buy a nearly new one. I bought a 6 month old one with 700 miles on the clock for £1000 less than the new price. However, I did get the 'old' 2024 model - 2025 onward models have a few changes - different rear shocks (a little better and adjustable), a different instrument display, slightly revised control layout and a different exhaust. As I said, mine is a 2024 model, which I bought in mid 2025, and I'm reasonably sure these changes had happened from the 2025 model year, rather than the 2026.
Possibly well worth thinking about freedom from service schedules - I have read on a Facebook forum the case of someone who bought one in the winter, put it away until spring so only did 11 miles, and then was informed by Honda that as he hadn't had the first service done within X months from new, his warranty was now invalid!

Yep. That was my concern. I think the new Vision I got in September last year was 600 miles or two months. I can make it work though I think. Just a PIA. I am sure I read the adjustable suspension was 2026 on though. Will read up on that.

I think ill just see what deals are on early next year or if there is a 2026 model with a 1000 miles at the right price I might snap it up.

How are you getting on with yours? What do you think of it?

Oh its the sweetest thing imaginable! Does have a nice feeling when you ride it. Does handle remarkably well if you can find a nice flowing bend with a good surface (pretty rare up here in Cumbria!). I bought it to handle the crap cart tracks known as roads up here, which is does pretty well. Previous mid-sized scoots I've owned were utterly hopeless out of town - just struggled with bumpy roads, but the ADV does pretty well - probably down to the long travel suspension. Its not perfect in this respect - suspension is pretty firm and it handles rounded bumps remarkably well, but it can get caught out by the sharpest holes and crevises that can be found. In many ways its remarkably close to the Tmax when things get rough.
Huge luggage space - I can fit two full face helmets and more in - though some people say that XL helmets don't fit.
I find minor controls exasperating - the indicator switch is lower down than you expect (the Honda position) and I tend to switch the hazard lights and full beam on by accident! There are some differences in this with later models. The display screen is crammed with info, but setting anything requires a computer science degree! I once managed to accidentally switch the display from mph to kph by pressing the toggle switch randomly, and had to get the manual out to work out how to switch it back!
Engine performance is good, but could do with more grunt really - it easily whistles up to 60-70mph without any effort, but you seem to have to work to make it go faster. Its a bit windblown at speed, despite me fitting a larger screen. Fuel economy is good, though I don't get as good figures as many people claim - I normally get in the 70s (though I appear to have got 83 when I filled it today!), but my figures are real figures not figures off the display. Despite the smallish tank (11.5 ltr or whatever), the range is very good - up to 160 miles.
Overall, its a great thing to potter round the back lanes, but maybe not a grand tourer!

Cheers. I didn't realise you were in Cumbria. Its practically my backyard as well. Always over there. The Vstrom when it does get some use is just an hour or two blasting about the North Yorkshire Dales, Upper Teesdale, Weardale and Cumbria. I've spent a lot of time over in the Lakes with the motorhome and Honda Vision 110 and I always thought a bigger 250-350cc scoot would be ideal there. Big bikes are a waste in the lake district I think. The Vision is a hoot there.

MPG bothers me less than range. The Vstrom guys often claim 70mpg but they must ride them at 56mph up and down the A1 as I am lucky to get much over 50mpg out of mine so I suspect ill get nowhere near 80mpg out of an ADV.

Our roads will be fairly similar I think so it sounds promising. Anyway I loved the test ride so Im pretty keen now really. Will I miss the power? That might not be such a bad thing to be honest.

My adv averaged 71mpg over nearly 10000 miles. The range does take a hit when running at 70mph. Great handling bike.

Went from Aberdeen to Africa when I had one, slight cheat was that I was still in the EU, but on the continent of Africa as it was Ceuta

And had a wonderful trip to Aosta another year where the highlight was going over the Petit St Bernard - Chamonix - Grand St Bernard, which made up for some very damp weather before.
