650 Rear Tyre Life

Post by J J »

I'd be interested to hear what other members are getting , mileage wise, from their rear tyres.

I have 5400 miles on my 650 from new and according to the wear indicators on the rear tyre it's coming up to needing changing.

JJ,
Can't input on rear mileage yet, but if you replace with another Bridgestone TH01 make sure it is recent stock and has the new suffix "M" on the end.

Bridgestone made a tweak to the construction (not compound I don't think) to help rear wear levels. It was about a year ago, so maybe even your OEM is a newer one, would be interested to know. The tyre would read TH01M.

I had two Burgman 650's and the first Burgervan had 8500 miles on the original rear tyre when I sold it
It was getting near to replacement and had started to go square :)

Andy,

that's about the mileage I was getting from rears on my X9's and my 400 Burger.

My tyre is beggining to square off as well.

Ho Hum........ a new Battleaxe needed with only 29 days to Xmas. :(

Just had a looksee and the description on the tyre reads;

TH01R Radial M

If that means that I have one of the newer tyres then I dread to think what the life was for one of the older ones. :o

Highjacking this slightly ,,, has anyone tried other makes on a 650? Indeed, are there other tyres made to the required spec?

Hi Colin,

I was under the impression that the Battleaxe was the only specified tyre for the B650, Nexus and the GP800 by virtue of it being a radial tyre.

That said, I wonder what the Burger used before the Battleaxe came out?

Going back to my rear tyre.

I've just had a look at the workshop manual that I've downloaded from Jim's site and seen that removal of the rear wheel is a lot less complicated than on an X9 or even the 400 Burger (No need to remove the exhaust or outrigger).

I might remove it myself and take it to a tyre shop to keep the cost down. I can even check the pads and bearings while I have it all apart.

Regards

On my second Exec now in 3 years, 6000mls on the rears, and they start to look 'pretty squared off' by then !

I too would be interested in if there is other radial tyre sizes to the Burger , wee bit wider would be nice 8-)
