Blazing Saddles

Today I got to meet up with a friend from the maxi-scoot forum.  We took a long ride in the 100 degree heat of about 240 miles riding through Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Vermont.  Had a great time and Paul mapped us out a fantastic route.  Here are some highlights of the very long day, about eleven hours in the saddle.

The route.

The ol' birds meeting up in Littleton, MA.

Honda seems to like things with wings!

Image
Our first covered bridge find.  I forget the name of this bridge but it is still in service and in quite good shape.

Image
Paul waiting as I run in down the road in 100 degree heat wearing full gear to get a photo of a church that caught my eye.  Probably didn't think I was too bright at that moment.

Image
Here's the church.  I pass these types of churches all the time in New England and always wanted to get a photo of one.

Image
The Dummerston bridge.  Still in service but only room for traffic in one direction at a time.

Image
Finally a good meal on the road, I guess third times the charm.  I can highly recommend the Newfane Cafe and Creamery to anyone visiting Vermont.

Image
The most delicious BLT I've ever had.

Image
Check out this table inside the cafe, the top is made of jar lids.

Image
Only to be outdone by this lounging sofa.

Image
It's made of coins!

Image
The mighty Nighthawk.

Image
Overlooking the Dam.

Image
Another one!  The Scott bridge.  This one was closed to traffic and in some disrepair.

Image
Some great views of the river through the broken slats of the bridge walls.  Kids were jumping off the bridge and into the river.

Image
The inside of the Scott bridge.  Notice the two large arcs on either side.  These were added later to strengthen the bride, it didn't work.

Image
Back to the bikes.

Image
An old water wheel.  I don't think this is much more than a tourist attraction anymore as it is near a large country store.

Image
A quick stop for one last refreshing treat.  Delicious vanilla and banana split gelato in Peterboro, NH.

Image
The long road home.

Had a great time even in the blistering heat, now I need to febreeze my helmet after sweltering in the sun all day!

Thanks for the replies guys. We had a good run that day. Many stops for photos and water and also to park our bikes in the shade.

Lovely pics, I bet it must be awfull having to suffer that beautiful weather.... As oppose to uk where if it tops 15 degrees we all think its a heatwave.

That was a joke BTW. I'm jealous.

That nighthawk looks pretty cool. :-)

We've just had a week of temperatures in the high twenties on the south coast, we were hotter than Spain, Greece, or Turkey at the weekend! Dan's runs are always mouthwatering though!

Lovely photos again Dan makes me really jealous. Nighthawk looks really good and nice to see a Silverwing in red for a change.
