Do you need L plates?

Hi

I've just bought my son a Vespa LX 50 08 for when he is 16 next year. It was a knock down price off a friend who needed the cash - only £800.00 with all the chrome work.

My wife has passed her CBT and has a full car licence for 24 years. Can she ride the Vespa 50 without L Plates? icon_moped.gif
I have just bought her a Vespa PX 125, but she is struggling with the gears. She wants to try the 50cc for a couple of weeks then maybe look for an LX 125 or a Maxi 125.

Cheers Buff

Yes she can ride a 50 without L plates and carry a pillion forever but if she wants a 125 she'll have to ride with L's and she won't be able to carry a pillion plus she'll have to renew the cbt every 2 years.

Thanks. That will mean I can use it for work without having to take the Ls off.

One thing to note.... is it derestricted? If it is, then your son can't ride it and your wife needs L plates.

She won't need L plates if it has been derestricted as it will still be under 125cc.

It is derestricted. I'll need to get it restricted, but my son isn't 16 until August. Does anyone know what that will cost?
