Black Ice + Scooter = an Off... :¬(

Post by JohnR93 »

Last Thursday @ 16:30 - 75 yards from my back gate, just turned into back ally doing about 2 MPH and Xevo just slides out from under me. Bike = A few scuffs & scratches. Me = Down like a sack of spuds. I felt my knee pop out of location and pop back in (is that a dislocation or a sprain or a strain?). I remember thinking, on the way down, 'That's not good'. Ambualnce to A&E who said they could not find anything wrong... X-rays show no fracture and there was no initial swelling (I have plump knees anyway). So I had to insist on a splint and sticks to aid walking. Knee was swollen Saturday, I am keeping it moving (sod the pain), thanks to Ibuprofen I'm keeping as mobile as I can.

PY said to replace the scratched panels will cost >£1,200 :o So I said I'd have Chips Away have a look first. Or I may just ride it with it's battle scars. If I'm not claiming on insurance do I have to tell them the paint is scratched?

Big thanks to Walter the Community Plod who was passing at just the right time to help me and the two lovely lady Paramedics in the ambulance. Slightly less kudos to the doctor in A&E who could not see a problem with my right knee... but I suppose they were very busy that day with loads of people falling over on the ice. I was in and out of A&E & X-Ray in about 3 hours, which I think is chuffing excellent.

I won't be riding for a week or two. I had hoped to make it to Traunt's Service but can't now. Sorry.
Regards,

Oh bugger....its been very nasty in many places. Hopefully your knee has just been banged & wrenched around if the medics can't see a problem, and it'll recover before too long. After all, most of the time, you just have to let nature get on and fix itself anyway - like my fractured shoulder last year.

I'm glad that you're OK. Keep that knee loose.

As far as the scoot goes, there are folks like me that don't worry about cosmetics and there are some folks who have things like scratches on the plastics gnaw at them every time they look at them. You have to decide which type you are.

sorry to here this john. I wouldn't worry too much about the bike for now, get yourself right first mate, then have a good look round it, I know someone who could spray youe panels at "mates rates", let me know if you want a quote john.
What you need now mate is military strength anti-imflams, lots of stella artios, and tell the missus , a good blow job will take your mind off the pain for a couple of minuites. ;)
Im not a gynecologist, but I dont mind taking a look.

Thanks for the replies chaps.

My knee is about 1.5 times it's normal size and is still unstable but I'm back at work (desk job) and moving & flexing the knee to keep it mobile.

The bike is being returned tomorrow so I'll get to see the scuffs for myself. I wasn't paying much attention on Thursday when I fell off it.

Horobags, I may take you up on your Mate's Mate rate  for spraying (I wonder how much it would be for a colour change respray, I always fancied a deep metallic blood red scooter.)
